Lethbridge,
Hey

I resently purchased my new toy and had to replace the stock deck and spreakers but in the process of installing the deck had to move my car so my girl friend could use the garage, as i pull out i hear and see some sparks from the cavity of were the stock deck was and think FUC% ME now what!!! i couldn't find any problems untill that night as i noticed my dash lights were out, i think it's minor then the cop pulls me over; and now i know my tail lights are out, it's been close to a week and i have no idea what it is. The fuses are good under the hood and the fuses on the driver side are good too. any idea's???

Thanks

SL

it SHOULD be one of the fuses under the hood on the passenger side...one of the 10 amp ones.....thats what mine was...check it again...i know i had to and bingo...there it was...right in front of me

When i installed my stereo, i did not hook up one of the wires, and my dash lights where out. Actually there where 2 wires that i didn't hook up, they where "dimmer" and "illumination". The wire that says dimmer must be grounded (even thought i dont have a dimmer), i guess it just completes the circuit for the dash lights. Im not sure if 2gs are any similar to 1gs though-- hope this helps

I was installing my boost guage and went to install the lites did so and something blew and my dash lites and rear lites don't work, brake lites do though. I checked all the fuses and was wondering if anyone has heard of anything like this?? Im totally stumped.

Same thing happened to me. I would recommend having a shop check the damages if it isn't a fuse.

-You should always disconnect the negative terminal on the battery when working on electical related, sometime, you can fry your ECU if you're not careful.

Okay last week I noticed the dash lights weren't working in my 92 Talon TSI, I thought no big deal I will look at it whe I get a chance. Well I did and realized that the tail light didn't work either and the fuse in the engine compartment was blown. well when I put a new fuse in the same thing happens. Is there a common problem here or am I going to have to trace the short down. I moved another part, a black fuse looking thing I beleive to be some sort of resistor, well I switched the fog and tail since I have no fog lights. It worked for a few days now problem is back. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I stumbled across this thread while searching for something else. I'm having this same problem. Some guys fix theirs by going up to a 20A fuse, but that didn't work for me. Did you figure yours out yet?

Thanks man, I found it was one of the orange wires for the stereo.

 dash light, interior lights, front bumper/corner lights, tail lights all out I've pulled and checked all the fuses under my dash and all the fuses are fine. I've checked for exposed wires that could cause a short. All the wires are taped up. Is there a relay or any other fuses related to my problem that I may have over looked?

FIXED. It was a blown tail light fuse under the hood. I replaced it and it blew again. I double checked my illuminated tail light mod and changed grounding point. Replaced the fuse again, now everything works. Thanks a mil.

Sorry, I don't have a pic yet. I will try to have one by the end of the week. Basically, its stock red tail light but the center peice has the eclipse emblem removed and a custom panel with the word eclipse cut out placed inside the center tail light. Some 12v bulbs was taped to the back of the housing so that when it lights up, only the word eclipse is illuminated in the center tail piece. Its a prototype right now but in the future, I'm gonna use either a tube of leds or a tube of neon for better effect :thumb: .

Well don't know how it happened but just noticed my dash (radio, cluster, HVAC, shifter) and my parking lights went dead all the sudden. I know they were working two weeks back. I didn't installed anything or messed with anything except the intake in engine bay which should have no impact on it what so ever.

All the lights when you open the door works. The dash lights do not light up in neither the parking light or low-beam settings. Parking lights also do not light up in thier settings.

So far i only checked the gauge fuse in under the dash and it was fine. What other fuses do i need to check in either the engine bay or under the dash that might cause it to go out?

I know about the dimmer switch, i'm gonna look into that, but i don't think that would cause the parking lights to go out.

Thanks for your help.

check your light fuse, and check your dimmer switch. Here's how:

Take out the dimmer switch (2 phillips screws).

take of the covers (should have plastic clips that hold it togeher, top slides off if i remember correctly.

Now, the part that goes out is the main transistor which is connected to the heat sink. To test this, use a multimeter. I think the transistor is a NPN transistor so put your multimeter on diode test and connect the positive lead to the the center pin. Connect the negative lead to one the outer pins. Now test the center pin and the other lead. If either report bad, you have a bad transistor. (note, the readings may be a few ohms off because the transistor is still in place on the board, but it should be evident if it's blown). For more information on transistor testing, click here.

If your transistor is bad, it's not too hard to get a new one. Get the number off of the transistor (i don't remember the cross reference) and use this cross-reference. If there isn't a NTE dealer around you, i'm one so just PM me and i'll ship you one via paypal or something.
