91 AWD auto trans: Only works in 3rd and Revurse

This 1991 TSi AWD with auto transmission only works in 3rd and revurse, whats the problem, the last owner said it was one of the three sensors or something in the transmission

You would have better luck posting this in the A/T section as Transdude from IPT is on regularly.

It sound like your trans is in "limp mode", most likely due to failure of a sensor or solenoid.

Your transmission sounds to be in "failsafe" mode, most likely because the other gears have suffered extreme damage, hate to say it, but I doubt the sensors have much to do with this, you will probably need a new tranny.

the guy was very honest when i bought it and he said he didnt abuse the car, and it dosent appear to be worn out, dosent smoke or have blow-by

i posted this question in the A/T section but is you still have something to add please do

I love my DSM, but I gotta be honest the transmissions, especially the autos...not so good, abuse or no it happens.
