i think my a/f gauge is broken. how can i test it?

how can i test my a/f gauge to see if it is broken? it is hooked up and yet it doesnt light up when i turn on the car. can someone tell me how i might test it without having it in the car? thanks.

its a 3 wire hookup correct? 1 is power, 1 is ground, 1 is signal from the 02, simply hook up the power and ground to the battery and see if it turns on.
