timing belt ?

i have a 92 talon tsi that i am redoing the timing on. i was wondering if the pistons have to be set at top dead center. i have a 1.8 L eclipse that i did the timing on and it had to be set at TDC, but the 2.0 tunrbo has an ignition coil, not the distributer. and when i did the pistons to TDC the iming mark on the crank didn't match up. should i line up the mark on the crank and not worry about TDC? and where would the cams have to be set at on either situation.

all the marks must be ligned up. period. piston 1 had to be a tdc. the cams have to be ligned up with the dowel pins pointing toward 12 o' clock. look at the vfaq. the CAS acts the same way as a distributor.
