I cant seem to get my cruise control to work ive replace the vaccum hoses, checked the cruise control cables and everything seems fine, the little light on the knob even lights up when I turn on the cruise control, but the dash light does not come on and nothing happens. Does anyone know what the deal is here?

Dude, I had this exact problem. Turned out to be operator failure. before I say anything else I have to ask. Have you ever had the cruise control work before? Cause I hadn't. I drove from Spokane to Seattle bewildered that my cruise wouldn't work. You have to push on the button on the end of the switch until the light on the dash comes on. With my car I have to push it like three or four times before it actually comes on. I hope thats what your problem was. Good luck :dsm: :thumb:

in response to the first reply, ive held the button down forever and hit it numerous times and nothing happens. As for the second reply I'll look for this switch by the clutch pedal and see what happens, thanks

ok i checked the little switch by the clutch and nothing seems wrong with it, what else could be the deal here, I'd figure at least the green cruise light in the dash would light up or something. Any more ideas?

I have to put my foot under mine and pull up so that the switch will make contact, the switch could definetly be bad and still "look" ok.

OK, next thing I would try is to remove the box behind the intake manifold where the vacuum hose hooks up to, and disassemble and clean out the components inside. I did that and my cruise worked a little better. My cruise activates and works for a while but then disengages by itself. BTW, what is that box called anyway and what exactly does it do? Also, is that cylinder by the left fender a vacuum actuator?

ok, its not a fuse, I've check that. How exactly can i tell if the switch is in fact bad or not? And that thing by the left fender would most likely be your windshield wiper motor. Thanks

Ummm, no. The wiper motor is on the passenger side firewall. I'm talking about the one by the driver side strut tower/fender.

oh sorry i was thinking of the left fender as in if you were looking under the hood. But yea, I've replaced the vaccum hoses going to that cylinder shaped thing and all other cruise control lines i can find, But about that switch again, how can i tell if the switch is the culprit? thanks

justin

If your switch is stuck your car will start without having to push the clutch. If the switch is bad your car wouldnt start.

Mine stopped working after I swapped engines. In that box that is mounted to the firewall, it turns out that I had reversed 2 of the cables and when I switched them back it worked fine. Have you messed with the cables? If not, that that isn't your problem! :thumb:

will have to try this on mine, Push and Hold till it lights, I use to hit it like a few times and then it would come on. I have an Auto, is there a switch like that for mine,, I replace the button on mine, and i still have my old one. Just thought I'd ask.

try this, use your left foot under the BRAKE pedal & pull the pedal all the way up while trying to set the cruise. Yup, there is a switch on the brake pedal that turns off the cruise when you hit the brakes & if your brakes are worn, low brake fluid or air in fluid or sticky brake pedal, then the pedal doesn't come back up all the way on it's own. This can also cause the cruise to turn off when you drive over a bump--shakes the pedal.
