This is the 3rd oil filter that has done this. Luckily i watch my guages closely and the oil pressure never gets to low. Its happened 3 times now, i tighten the filter on, get it real good and tight, and about a week later the filter is backed off and my car is leaking oil like it is its job. anyone had a problem with this or know y it is happening???

saftey wire it.

RRE has a vfaq on ther website somewhere. this happened to Scot gray and cost him his motor

Mine did this alot and got to the point where it would just pour oil but the filter would be tight on it. So what I did was take the filter off, tighten the bolt that holds the oil cooler on(thats why it was leaking, the bolt was loose but not the filter) If you want you can put some thead lock on it too. Well tighten the bolt then tighten the filter. Again I put blue threadlock on that. Havn't had a problem since.

I've also heard of this happening when somebody changed their own oil and doesnt realize that the old rubber seal from the filter that they took off is still on the filter housing. So when they put the new filter on the seal is overtop of the old seal that is still stuck to the filter housing and the new filter doesnt tighten totally. The pressure from pumping the oil through it slowly works the filter loose. Chck for this then do what unlikely hero said but be careful because if you tighten it too much it can crush the filter assembly and will cause constant bad leaking. Good luck!

Thanks a ton guys ill be sure to check things out and let ya know.

Got under the car and really checked it out and found out the stuf that you screw the oil filter on was loose. the whole assembly woudl move back and forth. Tightened the stuf up and am gonna try again. hopefully i wont need a new thing.

HA! this just happened to me last weekend. In about 2 blocks I dumped 4 quarts of oil. Sure enough the old rubber seal was still in there. :shhh: don't tell my neighbors that 1' wide brown stripe on the road is from me :thumb:

Well like any smart DSM'er you should have a home depot shopping catalog in your trunk along with a 2x4 some duck tape basic metic sockets and a large hammer ;)

i remember seeing an oil filter relocation VFAQ or something. that might be a solution. :thumb: :dsm:
