i have a 1999 gs with a 420a in it. when i was driving home from work it started to bog pretty bad and then some detination started to happen. i already check all the spark plugs and ignition wires and they appear to be fine. also did a compression test to make sure nothing major was wrong but the numbers from the test are coming up normal. im taking a guess and thinking it is a problem with the distributor but im really not sure. does any one know anything about this or have had the same problem and can tell me how to fix this...thanks for ne help..i really need it:confused:

when I was having that problem I had oil on the washer on my plugs dont thats your problem though cause I dont think you would get a code for that. i would check the coil well you said distributor so I guess you dont have a coil I guess you could change that and see what that does. you said you checked the wires already and the plugs. the ignition system only consists of a few major parts plugs,wires,coil/distributor,power transistor I'm sure thieres more but you get what I'm saying those are the major ones. I hope that gave you some sort of insight.

Distributor systems are really simple (I havn't looked at the 420A one...to be honest I am quite ignorant about their particular ignition system). That said you have a coil that simply discharges when the distributor aligns. If you are having trouble with only 1 of the cylinders It pretty much has to be from the distributor to the plug (the coil wire and everything on that side of it is shared by all systems). It is possible that the distributor has worn and the gap for the #4 cylinder has enlarged.
