sometimes i start my car up after its been sitting for a while and there is mad tapping coming from the head, sounds more or less like lifters. is that normal? when i redid my head i put revised lifters in it to not have that problem. could it be the oil draining out of them because the holes are so much bigger??? the sound goes away after its warm and sometimes it doesnt even do it when its cold. i just wanna hear what other ppl think, and if i should be worried about it or not. thanks :dsm:

When you installes the lifters, did you make sure that the hole in the inner shaft is rotated 180 * out from the holes on the outer body of the lifter? I read somewhere that this can cause a lubrication problem internally. I have a similar problem I am working on. I replaced my old lifters years ago with upgraded ones that now tick. I am going to replace the upgrades with NEW upgrades. If I get my parts this week I'll let you know. My car generally sounds like crap when cold, ticking and such, but smoothes out when warmed up. I'll be replacing connecting rod bearings, (currentlystill good), eliminating the ballance shafts, in car technique, and replacing the lifters.
Are you sure that you don't have a minor exhaust leak?( around the manifold to head area) They sound like a tapping some times.
That's all I can think of right now.
Good luck

Dave

actually i did have an exhaust leak coming from the manifold gasket and it sounded like a bad rod knock. but the noise now is definately coming from the head. it hasnt done it lately..then again it hasnt been that cold. my car does some funny shit whenits cold. as for the lifters..i didnt do the 180 degree thing. i just got them in the mail, threw em in and put my car back together...the only thing i did was put assembly lube on the tips of them. unless they were like that when i got them..then no, i didnt rotate them 180 degrees. but let me know how yours goes when u do it.
