Owen Sound,
Problem a bit complicated so here it is the best I can say. 92 Talon AWD 5/speed.

Moving off from stop light and motor stalls. Noticed clutch went down to the floor much too easy. Car chugging badly. Pulled on to side street and car dies. When starter activated engine belts, including timing belt, will advance only a few centimetres and starter stops until next try. Battery excellent. Tranny shifter free to access all gears and driveline not locked up. Still very little pressure on clutch.

Jacked up front and crawled underneath and with buddy pushing clutch in and out I observe the tranny case moving away from engine about 1/2 inch and then back again. Clutch pedal down to floor and tranny case pulls away from motor. Release pedal and tranny returns back to motor.

Something has jamed in the clutch/flywheel assembly and I was wondering if anyone one had some thoughts on this. Towed it home with a rope.

Thanks.

Sounds like you may have seized a bearing & locked up a crank journal. I'd pull the oil pan and check it out. It may be some work to do that, but if something's wrong with the clutch/flywheel, you're going to have to pull the t-case anyway. After you take the t-case off, all you need to do is unbolt the pan (you might have to take the crossmember under the pan off, I can't remember) and slide it out.
