So my car has been bucking under boost lately. And I think I just found my problem. My fuel pressure gauge(underhood) is reading 85psi BASE pressure weather the vaccume hose is connected or not.

What is weird is if I give it throttle the fuel pressure actually DROPS to about 70psi.

So tomorrow I'm going to the parts store for a replacement one.

My question is: What would cause this? And is there any way to prevent it from happening again?

Note: It was a modified with a Aerospeed AFPR kit(identicle to the B&M one) and worked great for over 20,000 miles. It just now decided to act up. I inspected it and all looked fine. Must be an internal piece I can't see.

Edit: just wanted to add that the replacement FPR I get will remain stock.

Holy crap! What fuel pump are you running? If it's a w255 ur going to need some way to control fuel pressure. Aeromotive is your friend :)

Yup, a 255High Pressure. I'm low on funds so a stock replacement is all I can afford right now. I've actually had zero problems running that pump on the modified FPR that I had so I'm not too concerned about going with a stock unit for a few weeks.

However Aeromotive will be getting my business soon. :)

So your runing a high pressure pump with "regulator" as you say (actually its a called a fuel pressure riser or modifier becuase you cannot turn down the pressure).

In esence you ar erunnin a HP pump with toy that cna only make the fuel pressure go up more.

There is NO point to these B&M "FPR" pieces of crap! Your better off with the stock FPR. Go to ebay and find an OBX/Cosmo FPR or just wait on the aeromotive. Don't waste any more $ on this junk!

I'm with that guy. You need to get a replacement FPR not a modified FPR. You will feel the difference with even a simple e-bay FPR. the problem with the e-bay ones is that you will need to get an instal kit along with the regulator. I picked up an OBX off e-bay and the hose kit from SBR

With a little enginuity I was able to mod my Cosmo Racing (OBX) FPR onto the fuel rail. Use a stock FPR, drilled and tapped the stock FPR fittings, then used some home depot fittings to make it fit together.

Yea no shit. I know that now. :D

I have a stock FPR on my car. I'm now sitting pretty at 40psi. base. I would have ordered an aftermarket "true" AFPR but two things stopped me.

1) $50 is cheaper than $150 and I'm on tight on funds right now.

2) I could buy the stock one today and would have to wait for an aftermarket one. I need to get to work tomorrow. :D

In a few weeks I'll be giving Aeromotive some business.
