Water in my oil. Need new engine?

My radiator sprung a water fall and drained my water, I HAD to get home and the car still ran without completely over heating. I got home car still ran ok. I shut the car down and proceeded to add water for it to cool down. After it cooled, I patched up the radiator, and turned the car on. Much to my dismay, the car was running like poop. It felt like I was running on 2 cylinders again. I checked for spark on all coils and no problem there. Then I check the oil, and bam, it's milky and smells like coolant:cry: . The car starts and seems to have good compression still because it holds boost when I rev it (I will give it a compression test to make sure). It doesn't smoke at all.

Question is, Is the engine done for? Or do I just need to replace some gaskets and the oil?

yep....

FIX this before you drive it anymore! Change your oil a few times after it is fixed also. Just buy some $0.99 bottle of oil and change it a few times with 10-100 miles in between each change.
 
You have to take the head off and lay a straight edge along it both length wise, width wise and diagonally. Then take your feeler guage and try to slip it under the straight edge. I don't know what the specific tolerances are for your engine but I'm sure they wouldn't be hard to find. If it is off by too much you can always have a machine shop plane it for you. I just had this done myself and it wasn't terribly expensive... $90 Canadian at the place I went to.
 
I hate to bring up an old thread, but I gotta chime in before I create my own new thread.

I dont have ANY oil in my coolant. however, I have a boatload of coolant in my oil (this is after a rebuild).

I plugged off the coolant lines to the turbo and oil cooler, so there is no coolant going outside of the motor.

I changed the oil twice and it is still milky.

Is there a chance that it could be the HG? Wouldn't you have oil in your coolant too? Or is the coolant pressure from the waterpump enough to keep the oil out?

Compression is fine, car runs like a champ, but the oil is like a vanilla milkshake. I am going to change it a few more times with all the external coolant lines disconnected (except radiator) and see if it clears up, but I have a feeling it is the HG. I just have never heard of the blown HG only allowing coolant in the oil and not the other way around.

Oh, and are there any plugs or spots that I could have not put back together correctly on the block or head that would allow coolant into the oil? I can't think of any.
 
Sounds like a warped head. I just had the same thing happen... heater hose blew, dropped all the coolant. Shut it down right away, but the damage was done, apparently. Had to get the head milled, and had the bottom end rebuilt as well, just in case of heat damage to the bearings.

Try taking off your radiator cap and turning it over. If you get a geyser of water (mine hit a good four to five feet high, splashing off the underside of the hood) then at least one piston is pushing exhaust into the coolant... and a lot of it. Good indicator of a warp. If not, you could be lucky and have it just be the gasket. Still want to do the warp-checks above just to be certain, while the head's off anyway.
 
The best thing to do is just take the head off and take it straight to a machine shop, i think they only charge between 50-80 to clean and shave the head. Then you will know the head is perfectly true on the bottum. Also make them check for any bent valves or ones that are getting ready to go.
 
The head is new and was checked/matched for my block. I have good compression on all four and my coolant is not getting into my cylinders. The problem seems to be that coolant is going into my oil, but no oil in the coolant. I have every external coolant line disconnected and blocked (turbo, oil cooler, etc...) and it is still happening. I just swapped out my HG with one from the factory, who knows where the first one came from. I am going to bolt it in tonight and we'll see whats up.

While putting it back together, can you think of any plugs anywhere that I missed that would allow this to happen?

Just drained the coolant, not a drop of oil. Lots of cooland in oil.
 
I hate to bring a thread back from the dead but hey at least i did my search before I posted my own! I have the same thing going on with my engine. I checked the compression before taking the cylinder head off. it tested out bad took the head off bad gasket. And i checked for a warped head and it was within tolerances "as manual indicates" and i have this knock noise noise / milky oil in the pan i changed the oil twice to run all coolant off but still comes out milky! Anyone know what can be going on? I am going to check for a spun rod bearing. any advice would help!
