Ok, I just replaced the harmonic balancer on my 96 GSX started car heard a crackling noise and now have vibration and power loss after 5k RPM..

Wish I could describe the noise better but it sounded like when you crush a piece of plastic.. Just wondering if it might be possible that the noise was a piston meeting a valve to say hello?

The car idles fine but seems to have a bit more movement. It doesn't seem to be missfiring or anything. (Think it might have always been that way) When you get the car on the road it pulls fine upto 4500 then falls off rapidly after that. Also after 5000 RPM the motor gets an extremely loud noise with a vibration that sounds kinda like a heat sheild with broken welds.. I don't have any mods on the car as of yet so I can rule something like that out. If anyone has any ideas as to what it could be let me know. I still have a warranty on the car so if it is valves then thankfully I can have the head redone with minimal cost just down time.

Not trying to bump the thread just have a little bit of other info or question.

When trying to get the crank pulley(aka harmonic balancer) off the car I had to do some minor tapping to free it up. Do you think that the noise I am hearing could be Crank? Reason I say this is because when accelerating the motor in Nuetral it makes a small growle or (clacking noise) down low in the motor. Any thoughts?

The reason I attached it to this thread was because it has also just come up since the balancer replacement...

The hermonic balancer might have broke, and then flung into the timing belt.
