I just picked up a 91 tsi auto. On the way home i noticed that the car wont rev past 4500 in the power mode of the trans and 3500 in the economy mode. even putting the trans in low and hitting it it still feels like it bounces off a rev limiter at 4500. the turbo feels like it boost great up until that point the trans isnt shifting eratically the fluid is nice and red and there is no metal in the fluid the car had relativly low mileage and absoulutly everything else feels solid. Also the car has an exhaust leak that sounds like a blown flex pipe its def a leak from the downpipe somewhere. Im guessing maybe i have a clogged cat and that blew out the flex pipe and is causing my issues. I havent look at it yet. anyone else have any other potential ideas, does a clogged cat sound plausable or should i look elsewhere. thanks for any help

other than the cat being clogged and possibly a boost leak is there any other ideas you guys car think of as to possible things to check also what would be the best way to narrow the possiblities down if it is a boost leak

i just got a talon myself, i don't know to much specific to the car, but i would think, fuel pump, might do it, or something with the comp. but if its an auto, i would bet money its the tranny...somethign to do with the tranny and the comp.

ok now im confused it was reving fine last night after i put some good gas in it it was reving up and driving normal now today it is back to how it was before any ideas guys on the problem if it comes and goes

first of all you should always put the good gas in it. it takes premium so it can run leaner, with less chance of detonation, its important. i don't know, what was the tempurature, could your gas be freezing?

the temp last night and this afternoon was almost 40 so i dont think it was freezing. i just dont know what changed between last night and today im going to try it again later and see if there is any change also when i rev the car up im hearing a clanging sound its not lifters or bottom end its only when i rev it up when moving any ideas if that could be related could i potential have a shot turbo? thanks for any help

now i drove it again tonight and it was fine it revs and drives great. anybody have any ideas please i need some ideas, it wont rev during the day when i go drive it at night it revs fine.
