hey guys, ill be moving to the gilbert / mesa area next month with the dsm.

how strict is the emissions down there? also any one know a performance shop looking for a good tech, i'm closing up my shop here.

lmk thanks

Most of the shops around here don't even bother looking for the cat. They plug in your obdII and as long as the readiness monitors are good and your gas cap isn't leaking then you are good to go. (our cars are actually exempt from the monitor check but most of them don't know that and will still fail you...)

If you register your car to an address outside of maricopa/pinal county there are no emissions in many of the counties. Just have your mail sent to a PO box in Flagstaff and forwarded to your actual address where you live. That way you don't even have to do an emissions test at all. You just need to give the MVD a physical address outside of the populated areas but then you can give them a mailing address as the PO BOX and then set it up to forward your mail down here.

EDIT: Sorry didn't read that you were a 90 model. They will be a little more strict for you and probably do a visual/sniffer inspection. Nothing too bad though.

Also, I actually don't know of any "good/reputable" shops around here. The only one I have really heard anything good about is VividRacing but I don't think I would ever bring my car to them... I'd rather drive to RRE in cali...

Just like donniekak said above they just check for a cat and do a sniff test at idle and at 2500rpm (depending on which one you go too they check the evap system). So just have a good cat and get it nice and hot and you will be all good. (HC) in ppm idle standerd is 220 and (CO) in % idle standerd is 1.20.
