So, I bought my 97 GSX with 172k about 3 weeks ago for $1200. So far, I've seafoamed the gas, oil, and also sucked up the last third of the bottle through one of the vacuum hoses. I also changed the water pump, alternator (the old one died after a week of having the car), spark plugs, plug wires, air filter, oil filter, headlight bulbs, and all belts. (Except the timing belt, which was supposedly replaced at 150k, that's next after the badly deteriorated rotors and pads. I looked at the timing belt, and it looks quite new.)
I did the oil change using BMW full synthetic. (Good enough until I get AmsOil, right?)
I'm bringing it to a Mitsubishi dealer tomorrow for a safety check, an exterior door handle replacement (because the old handle snapped off,) and a full set of replacement lug nuts with locks because the previous owner left me key sockets that don't fit the pattern.
I'm also picking up a set of 6 shifter bushings to replace anything my Megan Racing short shifter will not.
After the safety check, I'm thinking about doing pressure tests. I noticed my intake by the throttle body leaked a bit during the seafoaming.
I'm posting this in order to get specific suggestions as for what to do next in order for the car to be close to stock reliability before I start adding a lot of aftermarket parts.
Thanks in advance for your responses.
