My Talons paint is royally screwed thanks to the owner before me who got a 300 dollar macho paint job thats got clear coat chipping on the bumper and paint drips everywhere :notgood: So im curious if anyone knows someone who can do a good paint job cheap or a good place?, i want to turn my Talon to dark silver :thumb:

Thanks!

If you want it cheap, it ain't gonna be great. If you want it right, you're gonna have to pay for it...

If you want it cheap AND right, you have to learn to do it yourself. It is not rocket science or some form of mystery magic voodoo. It's very simple and anyone can do it... but it IS a lot of work. That is what you are paying for when a shop does it. The paint itself, even the tools, are only a small fraction of what you pay in labor. I hesitate to even say this, but I have even seen a few paint jobs that were done with spray paint enamel that looked as good as if a shop had shot it... but they had to do a LOT of work to make that happen. Plus, it still needs to be clear coated with a good 2k urethane clear if you want it to last, and that pretty much has to be shot with a pnuematic paint gun.

IOW, you could buy the tools and paint you'd need to do it yourself for the price you'd pay someone else... maybe less if you use Craigslist/ebay resources for some items... and have the capability of doing it for MUCH less the next time you want paint, OR you pay that price every time and never see a return besides a new paint job.

You are the person who can meet the criteria of both good and cheap. Even if you screw up (which you will the 1st time) and have to fix it, I'd be willing to bet it'll still cost less than a decent shop doing a normal 2k paint job.

Yeah, but I'd rather pay 1500 and get it perfect than pay 750 and mess up

Any painting mistake is fixable. I just prefer to have the tools to do the job again afterwards if I'm putting in that kind of money. It isn't for everyone though. Especially if time is an issue.

The only cheap paint job you can find will turn out exactly like what you"ve already got. No reputable shop will do a color change for $1500. Supplies alone ran me around $750 to redo my car the same color.

I'll spend around 40 hours just prepping the body for paint. The paint job is only as good and the subsurface. MAACO and places like that spend about 1 hour preparing the body. Usually they just run a DA sander over the body then tape it off.

It sounds like you're planning on doing it yourself since you wanted to know where to get cheap paint. If so, check out eastwood. Fairly reasonable but the paint may not be top of the line. With time flattening out the surface you can get a presentable paint job yourself.
