Hello everyone, my name is Quinn and I'm new to DSM's- just picked up a 94 GSX, 85000 miles with tons of documented maintenance. I'm trying to figure out a good exhaust setup and I am in LOVE with the Apex'i turbo back. But I'm wondering if I will still be able to pass King County emissions since I won't have a cat? Anyone have any experience willing to help me out? PM's with info would be greatly appreciated, thanks! :thumb:

To tell you the truth, I never heard of anyone passing emissions with out a cat. But you don't lose much with trying, only 15 bucks.

Yeah maybe to pass emissions you could just put on your stock downpipe and run the cat. Then when you pass just put on the aftermarket stuff.A bit of a hassle I know but that should work for ya.

+ 1

That's what I have heard too, all you need is a really good tune, that's how people in California get it done, their smog nazi's down there.

But I do not know as I don't take emission testing where I am at. But yes, from what I have heard good tuning will get you a pass.

Or get a down pipe, then a test pipe section, and just swap out the test pipe section with your cat when you go in, that should work too.

It can be done with simply an AFC!!

No rollers for road test part helps a bit. I passed with flying colors with 3"turboback no cat and hacked to hell MAS.

Of course Im in Spokane county should be the same though

i never run a cat on any of my cars and have never had any problems especially on my 1g, its when you start upgrading your fuel you tend to stop passing, but like team said a simple fuel computer does wonders.

Cool, sounds simple enough. I come from a land where emissions aren't such a big deal (Idaho) so I've never been through testing before. It's probably going to be a while before I get a new exhaust, probably after next year and thus after an emissions test but I just wanted to double check. Thanks for the helpful responses!

Help, I bought a 1996 Eagle talon NA and had to get an Immisions test done. I replaced the O2 sensor after not passing the IM test the first time. Now, it reads "not ready" on 4 of the 5 tests. It was recommended that I drive a few hundred miles to re-set the sensor, however, after driving at least 300 miles it is still reading "not ready". I was also told that turning on and off the car resets the ECU and of course this has not worked either. Any suggestions???

well you can go on Road Race Engineering.com and get a exhaust systme that has an interchangable TestPipe/Cat system. Thats what im about to purchase kuz my buddy that has an EVO 9 is running the same thing. check them out.

"not ready".

That is the biggest pain in the ass.
I've seen it with GM's usually when you change an O2 or anything sensor/battery related. There's a specific way to get it to clear, like driving 5 minutes at highway speed, then idle for 2 minutes and back on the freeway. (dont recall exactly how, its on the net somewhere).
I know there's another way to reset it with a computer, the real expensive one's that dealerships should have. That's your next best bet.
