Large group of speeders nabbed

Police stopped a convoy of speeding cars in Cosmopolis Saturday, shortly after noon.

“We got 15 stopped,” said Deputy Tim Laur of the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office. “We missed a couple.”

Laur clocked the fastest car at 91 mph near the truck scales east of Montesano on Highway 12. He attempted to make a stop, but his department-issued pickup was unable to catch up to the convoy.

“The governor kicks in early on that thing so I couldn’t keep up,” Laur said.

He radioed ahead for assistance and Trooper Matt Rabe of the Washington State Patrol made the stop after the cars passed him in Cosmopolis.

As Laur, Rabe and other officers from the Sheriff’s Office, State Patrol and Aberdeen Police Department issued tickets, the drivers congregated by the side of the highway. Their vehicles, an assortment of domestic and import vehicles, were parked in a long line along the shoulder. Most of the cars appeared to have been modified to enhance performance.

“We saw the police needed help so we decided to pull over because we have extra tools,” quipped one of those pulled over.

All of the drivers were from Pierce County in the Spanaway area, police said. They said they were headed to Ocean Shores on a day trip, said Trooper Chris Wilson, who assisted in the stop. The drivers also claimed it had been another group of cars that was speeding, yet none of the other officers saw such a group on the road, Wilson said.

Each driver was issued a citation for speeding in excess of 80 mph in a 60 mph zone.

Man that was a sweet run. And what was the deal, I was the only DSM with a ticket. LAME. I like how the reporter didnt even quote me right, I said we saw the police and pulled over to offer assistance. not

Anyways, I will be contesting the ticket since the cop clocked the black srt. I pulled over simply because I need a brake and didnt want to get to far ahead of the group. . I also got some good pictures of the line of us pulled over it was pretty sweet. We just hung out for 45 minutes and talked, lots of drivers slowed down to look at us or to cheer. Hope to see more dsm action out at the meets next time. L8R

Thumbs up

Well....yes, I have to say it was a very interesting run to say the least.

It is nice how the SRT group tried to put it on the group I was leading... hahahaha If I do recall.... I kept on the walkie saying we are doing no more than 70mph in that area... the radar was being lit up like a christmas tree....and that Silver Impala Undercover would of had all of us pulled over before we even caught up to the other group.

I have done this trip enough times to know where you can play and not play...and did the best I could to get us there safely and with money for gas. Sorry for those that followed the first group taking the risk that close into town...

On another note.... I am still looking for a honda civic hatch sticker to place with loving smiles on my front fender.

  • Dropping into 3rd, 3 respectful revs to show go time, then drop the hammer... $2.00
  • Pregnant wife in passenger seat digging nails into my skin with a big smile on her face = Painful
  • Honda Hatch revving into canine hearing range from either mis-shift or plain out spun motor, immediately followed by huge smoke cloud and flamage = Priceless
  • Cars behind us swirving due to not being able to see through the motor spewing smoke = Scary
  • The only thing I can say to the wife afterwards..... HONDA GO POOF!!!

As in all fun and games with this hobby, things happen. I do feel bad the guy blew up the motor and glad to see he pulled over and was ok. Normally it is us DSM'ers that have the issues so was good to see my baby took care of business when needed and still got me home safe.

Peace to everyone that went, good meeting you guys, chilling at the beach, and hope everyone had a good time and got home safe.
