NORTHWEST 2 DAY DYNO EVENT - March 22-23

It has been established to have a two days dyno event on March 22-23. This will take place at PINA MOTORSPORTS in Kent, Washington.

Dyno fee for the event will be ONLY $50 PER CAR for 3 pulls with strapping/ unstrapping, boost, and wideband AFR readout from the tailpipe. You can not find a better deal for 3 pulls!!!

We are trying to get between 40-50 cars for the 2 days event, putting up 20-25 cars per day. We will have pre-registration slots for up to 25 cars per day. You will have to pay the full price for your slot in advance and you can arrange to have a group slot if you guys want to go right one after another.

If time allows, we may be able to run more cars than 25 each day but please do not count on that. It is guaranteed we will have all slots filled so make sure to pre-reg if you definately want a chance to get your runs in. We are looking to start at 8am and go to when even we get done.

The plan is to have it in a shooutout style, with cars put into groupings of RWD, FWD and AWD for each of the 2 days. This will be a quick 3 pulls event to keep it cheap for everybody with minimal toying/tuning around time in between. It it involves pressing a button or turning a knob, this will be allowed. If you have to grab a tool and doodle with stuff under the hood, there will not be enough time for this hence will not be allowed. We will have a crew of 3 people to run the event to get the cars strapped, do 3 runs, and get it unstrapped.

A flyer will be made with more details on the event informations and will be spread to surrounding shops/ businesses as well to attract cars from other make and models.

Last heard we might even attract a couple car clubs from north of the border.

PINA MOTORSPORTS is located in Kent, Washington for those that do not know.

Registration info and for signup is linked below.

Welcome to Pinamotorsports - March 22 - 23 Dyno Day Event

*This event is being released to Subaru and a few other northwest clubs so please... register early!!! As you probably already know.... friendly horsepower battles between clubs will be in the sweet air...among turbo exhaust!!!

PRE-DYNO CHECKLIST:

We strongly recommend you to go through this pre-dyno checklist before bringing your car in. No one wants to blow something up or piss fluids all over the pretty DYNO making it no fun for anyone staged behind you!

1) BOOST LEAKS!!!

This is the number one problem of cars that have Mass Air Flow Sensors. If your car is Turbocharged you need to perform a "boost leak" or "Pressure test" on your car. Even the smallest boost leak will cause your car to run poorly. During testing it is observed that something as small as one vacuum line being disconnected caused the Factory Computer to estimate an extra 5-7% more air volume being metered at 20PSI of Boost. This caused Air Fuel Ratio to become .7-1.25 richer than it should and the ecu had pulled an additional 3-5 degrees of ignition timing. It's a lose lose situation. :sosad: When pressure testing your car, test it 10PSI over your target boost. Cars with small throttle body shaft seal boost leaks sometimes have seen gains of 40AWHP when the small leak is repaired.

2) Vacuum Hoses

Secure all vacuum hoses. If your vacuum/boost reference hose happens to pop off your fuel pressure regulator while doing a dyno pull at 5500 RPM and 27 PSI your fuel pressure will IMMEDIATELY DROP 27PSI! Save yourself the melted piston and invest in a bag of small black tie straps to secure those hoses. If your boost gauge is tapped into your Fuel Pressure Regulator vacuum reference secure that also. (I will try to bring a bag of aerospace quality zippies for those in need) :D

3) Hose Clamps

Make sure all Hose Clamps are tight and silicone couplers are on completely. It is a huge pain to have an intercooler pipe pop off that happens to be in a location that is impossible to reach while the car is on the dyno. OMG:notgood:

4) Timing Belt

Double Check your timing belt and make sure it is on correctly. This is more common on 1990-1999 4G63s and 4G64s w/ a 4G63 head (no reference marks on the valve cover like the lucky Evo's.) Remember there are 15 timing belt teeth between the 2 top cam gear teeth on those years.

5) Spark Plugs

Does your car have the right spark plugs in it and are they gapped correctly? Are they tight enough? If not tight enough the plug could loosen up just a little. This would cause the plug to not dissipate heat correctly creating a hot spot in the combustion chamber. If it's too tight it's probably too late. Rule of thumb for every 100 horsepower over stock you should use 1 step colder plug. If you think your car will be making over 310 Horsepower to the wheels, gap your plugs at .027 or below. Just for reference a stock Evolution 9 comes with a .024-.025 spark plug gap from the factory. :thumb:

6) Ignition System

Generally speaking stock ignition systems can handle a good amount of power. So I will just outline some issues to look out for. If you have an Evolution and you plan on making over 400 horsepower to the wheels consistently, think about purchasing an HKS DLI at the least and gap your plugs to .025 or lower. If you own a DSM with stock coils and are planning on making over 450 horsepower to the wheels; purchase Iridium 7's if running methanol and Iridium 8's if using c16. Gap your plugs to 0.024.

7) Base Ignition Timing

Double check your base Ignition timing before coming in for the dyno run. If your car has stock cams but idles a bit rough and your Cam Angle Sensor Has to be maxed out in one direction to get your ignition timing to be right double check that your timing belt isn't off a tooth somewhere.

8) Wheels

Make sure all your tires are inflated to the same tire pressure. Be sure they are all the same diameter. Yes, people with AWD cars have tried to dyno with mismatched wheels!!! NO NO NO, and I mean NO donuts will be allowed on the dyno!!! :tease::beatentodeath:

9) Wastegate

Be sure your wastegate is up to the task of controlling your target boost levels. If you are tying to make 30 PSI don't come in with a wastegate that has a 5 PSI spring. Boost controllers can usually double the wastegate spring pressure, but boost isn't very stable when pushed that far. As a rule of thumb, do not go 75% over the wastegate springs rating. On the opposite side make sure your wastegate isn't too small causing boost creep.

10) Electrical Systems

There is nothing more annoying than having to go in and tighten an engine ground strap that is stuck below a hot radiator hose and intercooler piping. Be sure to have all your electrical issues worked out before coming in.

11) Fluid Levels

Please be sure that you have Clean oil and coolant. Double check fluids are topped off. Be sure you do not have too little or too MUCH oil!! Be sure to have enough gas. If you have methanol/water injection be sure this is full also. Also double and triple check for major oil or water leaks. Rubber hoses should not be on the verge of cracking. :barf: Do not just add too MUCH oil to accomodate for the oil loss you are having on the ground. Again - the dyno is pretty and should be that way when your car rolls off.

12) Quality Gasoline

If you are running your car on pump gas, I suggest using 76 or Chevron premium gasoline. If your car has not been running for a long time and you just got it running don't forget to drain out all the old gas and run through a clean tank of gas. Just because you have methanol doesn't mean you do not need good quality gas. Be sure that is full also.

STANK YOU!!!!!

If you are wanting to come and spectate, that is fine but please keep clear of the guys working so they can do their jobs as well as the cars on the dyno running. Yes they are strapped down but we all have seen cars try to jump right off of the dyno with major mods and do not want anyone getting hurt. To get all the cars on the dyno in the allowed time, we need things to run as smooth as possible. :D

Very interested. I would love to do a baseline. Well base since I got the car. Motor I bought has web cams, 14b, 15psi. Everything else stock.

Yup. Sounds like fun. I'll know for sure in a week if I'll be able to make it....so who has a boost leak tester :sneaky:

So who is expecting to make good power? Any stock cars going? My battery took a crap on me. Anyone got one?

iLL BE DAM I GO AWAY TO THE EAST COAST FOR A WHILE AND IT HAPPENS....LOL. IM GETTING SOME MONEY TOGETHER TO HAVE MY CAR FIXED BY THEN.....IM GOING TO SPECTATE BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT ANDRE MIGHT DOE. SEE U GUYS WHEN I GET BACK...

Well hey guys even if your just coming to spectate thats cool, But let all your buddies know also, Because if we can fill up all the slots, Im sure i can talk him into throwing another dyno shoot out in like in a month or two after. my goal is to someday have a busher style event made out of this where we meet N great-bbq-and Dyno on Sat and drag on Sunday.:talon::dsm::laser::thumb:

LOL were going to go ahead a beat the cow down (cow-->:beatentodeath:) for u to have that. so anyone got a list together. Im going to be off that weekend so i will put word on the street when i touch down thursday.....I caught the tail end of a dsm even here in Myrtle Beach..........sweet :thumb:

Think they'd be cool with a stock car just trying to see where I'm at? My car has 210K on it but beautiful compression and pulls pretty well for the miles, so I think it'd be pretty cool to know what I'm at before the mods begin.

yeah totally, i want people to come down to get a good base hp dyno so buy the end of the summer they can see what increase theve gotten from all the mods:thumb: just make sure you pay threw the pre reg on pina,s site to get a dyno spot.:talon:

hawaiian i want to take that evo down the track one day. i been looking for some on the east coast but they are hard to find. I ran out of time so i come back to washington thursday. i want have enought time and money to get it ready on the dyno. so i guess it looks like a meet at pinas

i also wanted to add , that if you dont wanna do the pay pal thing but still wanna dyno and pay cash i,ll be down at pina,s shop friday evening so if you wanna meet up with me there or just stop by during the day you can pay and he will put your name on the spot you want, if you have any questions feel free to ask of message me, thanks.

We still have a lot of slots open right now for the Dyno Event. Only 50.00 for 3 passes guys!!! Let's make a good meet and get some more cars lined up! The SRT4 forums have quite a few people "in" and just need to register so let's get some more DSM's on this to show them whats up. :sneaky:
