The BMW club of Southern California is throwing an auto-X event this Sunday. Non-beemers are welcome, we sign up for X class and compete against all other non-beemers that are there. As of now the x class is my GSX, a couple Mustangs, a couple GTIs, and a Porsche 993.

Here is the info I got in an e-mail from the BMW club.
I have gone to one of their events before and this is actually a group that is really nice and fun to hang out with.

Sunday April 26, 2009 – The first auto-x of the 2009 season is scheduled for the 26th at Auto Club Speedway (formerly California Speedway). This event is a Driver’s School as it teaches car control and good driving habits in a very safe, extremely exhilarating environment. You and an instructor will spend the day improving virtually every aspect of your driving skills. For those of you who think you are already good, put your ego to a real test during the timed portion of the day. The timing lights don’t lie or tell stories at the local bar.

Speaking of bars, this event is being catered by Hooters in Ontario Mills. They are sending a couple of servers and plenty of good food. Some folks might even want to head over there afterwards for drinks (no alcohol allowed at the event) and bench racing.

The cost for the auto-x is a low $75 which includes:

· INSTRUCTION – Learn how to be a better driver in a safe, controlled environment

· PRACTICE AND TIMED RUNS – Most participants usually get between 9 and 12 runs depending on how many entries we have

· LUNCH – What could be more satisfying than a hot lunch?

· RALLY ALOFT – Your auto-x registration fee includes the Rally

· NEW FRIENDS – Auto-x is a great way to make new friends and learn new skills

· EXERCISE – Everybody at auto-x events works. Burn calories and get fit chasing cones knocked down by other drivers

· SUN TAN – Enjoy a great day outdoors admiring cars and getting exercise

New participants are not only welcomed, but ENCOURAGED. This is a great sport for young and seasoned drivers alike. We will award a special prize to the most improved novice, as nominated by the Instructors. Just remember that we all attended our first auto-x once.

It doesn’t matter what kind of car you drive so long as it is basically safe. While auto-x is a motorsport and thus involves some element of risk, this sport is EXTREMELY safe! Auto-x is much safer than driving on the freeway as nobody around you will be driving while on their cell phones, enjoying a venti latte and applying make-up (except for the Hooters girls of course). You don’t need a fast car or fancy tires to have fun and learn. Just arrive and drive – we will even provide the helmet for a rental fee of $10. Bring suntan lotion, your camera and a sense of adventure.

All I can say is you guys missed a great event. The weather was amazing and the Porshes got to see that you can't count out a 10 year old DSM with 107,000 miles on the stock engine.

if i saw this before i would have totally been down to go. I have been wanting to take mine to a track to run it but i am usually to loaded up at work :| Send a pm if anything like that is going on and i will try to make it out.
