Anyone ever timed themselfs on how fast it takes you to remove an engine? whats your best times?

you lifted the engine out and it took a bit longer but did you have to remove the tranny first or did you just push the engine off the tranny spline and pull it up?

i've only done it once on my buddies 90 gsx. took us around 9-10 hours, we lifted it right out the top with a cherry picker with the tranny and everything still connected.

did it in two hours with 2 guys i did the axels intake and power steering left the oil cooler attached and i also did the xcase and exhaust my buddy did electrical and intake but i was putting the whole manual drivetrain into an auto motor was out in 2 and it took an extra 4 hours to remove the pedals shifter cables console ecu rear diff non abs lines ect its been 3 days now and the 5spd swap is done and it runs great..its my third 4g63 pull its very easy if you do it all in order

ps the auto was harder to pull cause all the abs bs was in the way along with its alot bulkier to pull it took about 3.5 hours

I dont want to brag but BY MYSELF, I went from my car running to Engine completely out and completely tore down to bare block in 4 hours, and that includes taking complete exhaust, transfer case, and drive shaft off.

I work at my shop alone, And working alone gets tough when you need to work on 5-6 dsms at the same time. I've learned a ''pattern'' that I can follow every time for what to dissassemble in ''steps''.

Engine/trans in 1hr.

just had to do a waterpump/timing belt job on a 6-bolt swapped 2g. That took a bit over 1hr alone. Mitsu says it should take ''8hrs''.

Trans can be removed in 30 minutes.

turbo swap can be done in about 20 minutes. (it's only about 12 bolts holding it on.)

the only time i took an engine out was same d15 honda engine and i didnt lift it out i dropped it from the bottom but it tooke me maybe 10 hours all toegether with rusted bolts breaking

1 hour and 45 minutes with a boosted 420a. Engine and tranny both at the same time. I didn't pull the axles from the knuckles either, I just pulled the whole knuckle along with the axles from the tranny. Oh by the way did I mention that I don't have a shop, a lift, or air tools? I have two harbor freight Jack stands, a harbor freight 2 ton jack, an autozone engine hoist with a side scroller, and a Bluepoint toolset with SAE and Metric sockets and wrenches. Not to toot my own horn but TOOOOOT! Yes my engine bay looks more colorful that what your kid throws up after the carnival. I never said it was the final product.

My best time is 4 years 3 months and counting. this is on my 92 with out a transmission. after i kill the 90 I'll get around to the 92 then. i have had the best time on the 92.:rocks: LOL

I've actually timed myself once before it took 45 minutes, with no hoist. after doing it sooo many times before you get the hang of what to disconnect and what to leave.

Damn guys, give me a tractor, a chain, and a torch and I will have any engine out in about 5 min. Haha

With me, and my father as my 2nd pair of eyes and a little help 5hrs, axles out, preped, block up and out it came with engine and trans. 1st time it took me a weekend, but the 2nd time around, cake walk. im sure the next time will be quicker.

i didnt rush on my engine removal.

Ditto. When I pulled my motor and trans to replace a broken clutch release fork I took my time since I was doing it by myself and because I had never pulled the engine and trans from one of these until then. So I took my time labelling everything as I disconnected it. Plus, I had to lift the motor out of the top, using two RATCHET STRAPS, since my buddies were using thier lifts or were out of town for holiday.

If I did it now I know it wouldn't take anymore than an hour using a lift.

Last time I pulled my motor, (I've done it about three times) it took about 5-6 hours by myself with a hoist. I usually take my time to make sure nothing gets broken. :coy:

Picture of my last pull in my gallery.

14 minutes. No jack or stands LOL. Just a cold evening, and an oxy-acetylene torch. Remove front and rear motor mount bolt, drivers side bolt, then torched the coolant hoses, slave cylinder line, driver side axle, and had a friend disconnect the harness while I was cutting. Just needed the motor so anything that was still attached was broken when the tractor lifted the motor out LOL.

3 days... total about 1.5 hours, bagging every nut a bolt so nothing gets lost.

Wow, old thread.

I timed myself the last time I did it. I always pull the engine and tranny together. 65 minutes from grabbing the jack to lowering the engine and tranny down to the ground on the cherry picker. This was by myself on my mostly complete 2G (only missing the turbo and manifold).
