manual transmission not engaging lower gear set when down shifting (2nd and 4th)

This is my first DSM ever. my 95 talon 420A non turbo FWD manual transmission developed a very awkward shifting problem, first gear is all normal, second gear will only engage when shifted before 2000rpm, 3rd gear is normal, fourth gear is fine, and so is 5th. now when downshifting 4th will only engage when rev matched, and second still will not engage, also reverse will not engage once the car is warmed ( basically in the AM when cold it will engage, but when i arrive at work it will not engage) i have checked everything as far as fluids, shift linkage, and also that reverse sensor that their is TSB on they all checked out fine.

so i need to know where to begin now before i just start slapping parts on.

Well it could be as easy as your clutch pedal needs to be adjusted .. Also could be syncros have gone bad i would check the free play in the clutch first.

Is their anyway to tell where the clutch pedal should be? Like is there any sort of specs on it? I'm a stickler for specs Lol

specs can be found in service manual and all over the forums but sorry I dont remember them off hand .

Another thing I noticed was I read a thread on here about the cables I noticed when going into the lower gears the cable comes out and bends instead of being tight any idea?

Finally figured out the issue it was the cables, I removed both from the car to discover that they were loosing tension when put into the lower gear seat the boots where torn and nothing was in its proper place

That would most likly be the problem that would be the same direction on the cable i would check there first.
