I just totalled my 90 eclipse gst. I have a 93 talon tsi shell that I want to drop my motor into. My question is... I have dsm link v2 set up in my 90 eclipse; can I simply swap out the ecu that's in the 90 gst with the one that's in the 93 talon tsi shell? The previous owner of the car did a 6 bolt swap, but I think that the stock harness is still in it. What do I need to know?

A few people in my area say that it won't work to put my ecu with dsm link into the 93, because the 90 ecu is stand alone. but i'm thinking that if i swap out the entire wiring harness, and any other part that's in the 90--that's only compatible with that wiring harness, i'll be fine. i'm just wondering if anyone else has ever done this..

I put a 90 motor an harness + ecu in my 93 gsx with my link.I think you don't need to change the harness.I did because there wasn't an engine harness when I bought my shell so I had to go that route. there are something's your going to have to Re pin under the dash where the engine harness meets the dash harness and I think you'll have to run the 90 gauge cluster as well I had to do some research on here but I found all my answers on here just a matter of looking. I have a couple posts in the newbie section asking the same questions do a quick search

Just remove pin 6 and 14 from there harneses at the ECU and swap them... .
ECU pin out <-- that's it and you will be good.

It's the 90 car with a 91+ ecu that you need to do a lot of modifications to make work right.

I had already swapped out the harness a few days ago. There was one plug that I had to modify - - I actually cut out a slot inside the plug with an exact blade - - and it slid right into the connector, located on the passenger side, somewhere. And I cut out another plug in the 90 and hardwired it onto that of the 93. I don't know which plugs these are. I'll take some pictures tomorrow to show you what I'm talking about . I have the day off :rocks: But yeah. Harness and motor are swapped. I've already done some minor tuning. It works!

I got pulled over today in the talon and discovered that my licence is expired for not paying a speeding ticket. Would have been nice to get a notification in the mail. Probably not going to be any racing at the track for me this summer. :banghead:

Sounds like it was this one: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-electrical-wiring/412841-1990-engine-control-wiring-harness.html#post152709696

And I'd bet that was this one: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-electrical-wiring/412841-1990-engine-control-wiring-harness-2.html#post152709711

The plug I cut and hardwired was in the cabin, in very close proximity to the ecu. I would post a picture, but the site isn't allowing me to do so, probably because I'm a "noob." Don't think I'll take the extra time to remove a photo I already posted and elaborated on just to elaborate on this. I swapped the section of harness that goes from the ecu to the engine bay. I saw the same link that you just posted of the harness, Wiseman, when I was trying to figure out which plugs went where, after I dropped the motor. After looking at that link for about 30 seconds, I said screw it, and figured it out myself.

The second link I provided IS the harness connector in the cabin in very close proximity to the ECU. That article does nothing for anyone if they fail to read it -- and thirty seconds is certainly not enough time to absorb the information it holds. In any case, I'm glad to hear you've figured it out. You're certainly a more knowledgeable member now that you've been through that the hard way.

FYI, your ability to upload pictures to the site has nothing to do with your member status.

Sorry. I swear that it started me at the top of the page at the engine coolant temp gauge unit when I clicked on the link yesterday.
