Fuel pump prime with ignition?

I am in the midst of my upgrades. The 550 injectors are in and I just put the FP back. The turbo is out so I can't start the engine. I wanted to make sure I had no fuel leaks so I turned the ignition on to prime the fuel lines... but nothing happend. Does the FP prime when the ignition is on or does it only turn on when the engine is started?

it should turn on and run for about 3 seconds with the ignition in the on position...

no it dont -- at least not a 2g... it wont prime untill the starter is engaged
