1G: fuel pump

ok guys for some reason i have always thought that the fuel pump is always located under the back seat in all dsm's upon looking at my newly bought 1g it is the drop tank kind i have had 3 now and all have been under the passenger seat. My question is i guess can i still use the walbro 255 fuel pump on the auto i just picked up even tho it sits differently.

Im a bit confused i was unaware they made them for autos or manuals is that your question the 255 should be able to go in the car you have, perhaps i havent touched my awd fuel pump yet, just got the pump in the mail.

In a 1g fwd you have to drop the tank to get access. In a 1g awd there is an access panel to the fuel pump/sending unit in the hatch under the carpet on the drivers side. And the pump model differs from fwd to awd so make sure you have the right one with install kit! I would use extreme psi to reference part numbers. Auto or manual shouldn't matter, just awd or fwd.

You do have to go under the car in a 1g fwd but you do not have to drop the tank. It sucks but it's doable without too much effort. It won't be quicker to drop the tank. You do have to take off a bolt to a bracket that happens to seal the tank also so be prepared for a big leak or have a very very empty tank. Be careful, it's potentially quite dangerous.

I never dropped my tank in the fwd when i had one, took a bit but i got it done.

I just canted the fuel pump in my 92 fwd just jack up rightby the rear drivers sidd tire as much as possible and it will give you alot more room to work. Pb blast it the day before and a little while before you do it to make it easier. Use a locking pair of pliers to break them loose then you can unscrew them and replace then with hex head bolts.

I had to use an impact screw driver (one of those ones you hit with a hammer to loosen) to break those loose on my FWD. The worst part of the whole job was lining up the bolt that goes into the bottom of the tank with the bracket again inside. Make sure to do that before putting all of those screws back in. Definately have replacement screws ready to go in because you will probably destroy all of the ones you remove.

Drain your tank as much as possible if you have to access the fuel pump assembly via the bottom of the tank. It's a lot easier to drain a fuel tank than it is to put out a fire trust me. A buddy of mine with his Srt didn't drain his tank and a month later his garage floor igniting because there was fuel residue on the floor so be careful.
I'd just idle the car until it died if you can or drive it around or you can siphon the fuel out with just a standard garden hose and your mouth on the other end be prepared to get a little fuel in your mouth if your not quick enough lol.

you don't have to siphon the gas 1g tanks have drain plugs on rear on the drivers side.

just jack the car up on the drivers side and get under the car from the back the back. A 1g, gives you plenty of space to work i just changed my fuel pump last week easy just watch out for the rusty screws and not to break the metal lines

if you decide to drop the tank just know that it's a biotch getting it back up there

I got a 1g DSM with no fuel perssure.
and i nkow its not the ecu it could be cut wires do to leaving it sitten for one year by the woods.Either way thanks!
