Firing problem on 91 tsi with 16 turbo

Awhile ago my oil filter came of wich resulted in the balance shafts getting stuck, which in turn snapped my timing belt i have done a balance shaft elimination and re-timed and replaced the timing. it ran for about 5 hrs then it lost fire to all cylinders i replaced a few fuses and the ecm now i have fire on 1 and 4 but not 2 & 3. Really want to get this running anyone know of any solutions any input would be helpful thanks. C.J.

Run a compression test and see what the results are, I had a similar problem with my 1g. It was running fine then just stop running. I had 7 bent valves on the intake side and my timing belt was fine. I had a lifter stick up and push a couple valves into the pistons. I'm still not sure how so many got bent unless they were messed up before I got it. only one was hammered but the rest would wobble if I spun them in a drill. Also check for spark. A bad CAS can and will cause your coil pack to only fire on 1 and 4. that also happened to me just recently. Hope this helps or leads you in the right direction.

Well i think the coil pack on the left controls 1&4 and the one on the right does 2&3 so I would think the coil pack on the right is bad. You can check it with a ohm meter.

I agree. Start with that coil. And also the cas can cause a similar issue.

Might want to check the power transistor (aka ignitor). It gets an on/off signal from the ecu which in turn fires each coil seperately. You can have a loose/broken wire or just a bad power transistor.

How to test the power transistors

okay so this is what i have found out the 16g i believe is the big 16G off the evo i remember the guy telling me that. The coil packs have been replaced about two weeks ago, which leads me to believe its the power transistor i have it out of the var im going to replace it and see ### it does thanx for all the help and if anything else turns up i will know where to go now. Oh and does anybody know any great tranny mechanics around the fresno, CA area my second went out just before the whole oil filter fiasco. C.J.
