Ok I've had a a alt pushing way to many amps but I let that slide for a week, then I broke down and figured out the battery was dead. My guess the alt killed the battery. So I wanted to start fresh and bought a 97 galant alt and an autozone battery. Car ran much better but lights were very dim, and it seemed to idle alittle high. And the air and radio seem to cutt off and on, same with the intorior lights. Very weird. I didnnt have this problem before? Why do I have it with fresh new parts? Later that day maby 5 hours or so after install I. Am now have problems driveing. It seems to putter and won't let me go above 5k rpm's. When I try I feel it loose power and putts really bad as if there was something holding me back. I can't figure out what is going on. I never had any of these problems before the new parts, now I have a hole hand full of problems with in a few hours after install. Has this happend to anyone before? I don't understand what's going on

Also forgot to add, I had to drive with the ecu in safe loop or whatever for a good 15 minutes when I had the bad alt and battery, it was dumping fuel and back fireing could that have caused damage (even if the car was running fine for a few hours after the new parts)???

And also when I got the car home on the dead battery/alt I could not roll my windows up so the nxt day came around and I found out it rained over night. Could this cause damage to everything on the intorior light lights and such? I figure worst comes to works my door panal buttions woudnt not work but turns out nothing on the inside works besides after driveing for a minute or two.

I'm very new as you can tell so any advice will help a lot. I would like to get help from you guys and try and fix this problem myself with out taking it to a shop and haveing them overcharge for labor.

Ive had my car windows down before all night durring a storm so bad my seats were full in the morning when i came out and never had any problems, not to say its is good, but i think its hard to ruin door switches with a lil rain. long as they dont get submerged i doubt its the problem. If you have an apexi check the voltage while the car is running, if not use a volt meter and get a base reading while at an idle, should be around 13 volts, you could have got a bad used alt., which any auto zone can check for free.

i just got home from work and and i had the same problem i did before i fixed it. by the time i got home i was driveing the car in that ecu safe loop or whatever and i coudnt go over 20mph and i was putting/backfireing half way home. once i pulled up to my house i cut the car off. and tryed to turn it back on seconds later. and ofcorse i hear the loud clicking because the battery died. mind you this battery is no more then 12 hours old and i have driven with this battery for maby 30 minutes the hole day. and the alt seemed fine the first drive after putting it in. idk what the problem is now. all cables and wires seem to be in good. i think im going to just save my self the headache for now and take it to a shop this time. when we first put it in the amps were reading fine then out of the blue same problem the same day of install.

i have also forgot to add that i have been having performance problems with the car since the day i bought it (about a month). and when i got that new battery in and alternator it seemed to pull so much better since ive had the car. i don't really beat on the car that often but there was a huge difference in performance i could feel easily for that few hours it was running good. im not sure what would kill the new battery, and what would cause high idle with a new alt and battery (the few hour it was working). could this possible have anything to do with my ECU maby, or would that not even be a possiblity

Im not a mechanice i know what i have taught myself from a love of working with my hands and having something to show from the car, but i really does sound like you got a bad alt or! have a bad conection try taking the alt to autozone and they will test it free and tell you if its the problem if not id turn to the wiring and make sure you didnt accidently swap them and had goot contact, did you also change you terminal conectors?

Sorry about double posting computer is acting up.

Check the alternator fuse. Sounds like even though you have a new one, you are not getting a charge to the battery. It could also be a wire in plug on the alternator could be bad.

thanks and no i have changed the terminals, they looked fine. im going to go out there now and double check everything over again. i took my time putting in that alternator and i check over and it didn't look like i missed anything but i will check again.

wow.... im an idiot.... LOL thanks so much. i double check the fuse and i must not have seen it the first time i looked at it. turns out the fuse is back. im going to take a trip to advance auto swap the battery with a good one and get the fuse i need. hopefully the car will run fine after that. thanks so much.:D i learned my lesson. haha i will let you know if im having any weird problems after the new fuse and swap battery. thanks again

salved problem. sorry im still learning. hey well know i know for the nxt time. thanks guys. sorry for the stupidity:p
