calgary,
I had my gauges wired to my cig lighter, but it makes the stereo humm constantly, looking for somewhere else that will shut off when the car is off.

I use the "add a circuit" fuse blocks. Hooks up to a fuse insert and has a wire pigtail. Some are sine fuse and some are dual fused - one for each circuit.

For electronic gauges I would hook up to an ignition switched wire so they will wont do the on-off-on when you start the car.

I just checked the fuse box in the cabin with a muiltmeter to fine which ones were constants, and which were wired throught the ignition. Then I put the wire on the fused side of the socket.

You could use something like this to keep it simple and clean.

I'm with Crash on this one. I have my gauges wired to that as well and have never had any issues. I would say its more than likely a deck connection issue.

When I had one gauge I ran it to the cigarette lighter.

When I have 2 dual gauges and a wideband controller, I run a dedicated wire from the battery or steal a slot in the fuse box.

My way of wiring gauges is a little more extreme then most.
I've got 2 accessory fuse boxes mounted where my passenger side air bag use to be. These are feed by a 40A SPST relay which draws power directly from the battery and is switched on when the ignition is on. I don't have a picture of it finalized in the car though.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I figured it'd be better than starting a new one with the a question basically related to this. I want to use my cig lighter. Would the fuse box be the best place to wire in for my gauges? What are the differences? Most gauges are tinted (like mine) so it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have them light up during the day while driving. I know some people complain that certain areas where you wire up makes the aftermarket gauges dimmer than normal. That's not what I want.

Anyone? What would be the optimal place?

My boost gauge is tinted and I used one of those stm pigtails to hook it to an ignition switched source. I have it so it does light up in daytime and switch colors (prosport) at night when the lights come on. They are also hooked into the dimmer that was already on the car so they can be dimmed with the normal lights :thumb:

Hey I have prosports as well and they come with dimming features already. If I hook them up to the dimmer of the car would the gauges not be as bright as they should be just cause it's sharing the power with all the oem gauges?

I don't think I'd need the factory dimmer although I guess it wouldn't hurt. But since mine already come with the dimming feature I don't think it'd be that necessary.

The gauge I have is like the most basic that prosport offers so I don't think it has an dimming feature. But with it wired into the factory dimmer my led swapped interior lights all match. Also I think the only part of the dimmer that I wired into was the ground side so it's not taking power from the cluster or other lights. The power to the gauge is coming from the fusebox on an ignition switched source.

So all I'd really need to worry about is the power to the gauge coming from the fusebox from an ignition switched source? I don't have LED swapped interior lights but hope to one day. How do you use the STM product? I know NOTHING about wiring in a car so I'm terrified to install my gauges LOL

^^^ im with this guy! I no nothing about wiring. I got the prosport evo gauges ( oil pressure, water temp) and dont have a clue on how to wire them up. I've read many threads and still puzzled. I have a couple questions. How does the sensor work if the gauge and sensor dont match up the the same wire. Same for the water temp sensor. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
