To make a long story short. I acquired a 95 Mitsubishi Eclipse AWD trading in my 240. Now I'm new to DSM's but I've done my fair share of homework and really want to build something great with this platform.

Now to the problem. The car came with a 6 bolt engine with a useless block. No bigge, I pull a 97 engine from a crashed eagle talon. Get everything I need for it, got hooked up with DSMlink since 97 CAS is different then 95. I bought a CAS from ebay and luckily came with a plug for the harness side.

The harness had the 6bolt CAS plug.. rigged on it, so naturally it gets cut off and spliced the 97 one on and hook the CAS. After the whole engine swap is finally completed and everything is put together, the engine refuses to start. Tried every single fire order that diagrams would give me, tried changing coil packs, spark plugs, wires. Nothing.

DSMlink gives me the DTC code that I have a Cam Angle Sensor Malfunction and sometimes gives me the crank as well. Crank Sensor is brand new so it can't be that, and the CAS was bought from Ebay from person who sells a bunch of them all the time and has a good reputation.

The car wants to start, it back fires, gets fuel but just wont engage. Had a friend look at it and mentioned something about only 2 out of the 4 igniting to the cylinders. Again, I changed Coil Packs and nothing changed, still did this anyway. Timing is dead on too.

Car really wants to start, but like I said it wont. Really stuck here. :(

are you sure you connected the CAS sensor right?
sounds exactly like why my car wouldnt start when my CAS was off....

The 97 CAS is on the left side of the intake cam, and on the 95 its on the cam gear.
are you sure you have everything correct?

I put a 97 motor in a 95 a few yrs. back, I just pulled the cams and put the 95 cas on the 97 motor and the car ran fine. If you still have the old motor you could just swap the parts out. The 97 car if I recall right had a cam sensor on the front behind the cam gear.

IDK what the capabilities of DSM Link are, but If the person you got the car from just used the stock ECU with 1g CAS, he must have swapped the injector pins on the ECU - 1 for 4 and 2 for 3 in order to start the car, because the 1g Cam shaft signal has reversed polarity. Also, He must have swapped the trigger signals at the coil packs to compensate for the swapped injector pins.

If youre using the stock crank sensor by the crank sprocket and newer style 97+ cam sensor then you need to reverse all that and hope that your wiring is correct, but again I dont know if this can be done in DSM link.

Just pull all spark plugs and see which one sparks and which doesnt. You said you changed the coil packs, but it could be the transistor.

Just my 2cents

You would have better luck with a 1G CAS if your 97 Head has a spot for it.

Make sure to check Inverted CAS in DSMLink.

Swap plug wires 1 and 4 with 2 and 3.

The injector wires don't matter that much, it will run with them either way.

If you are getting a DTC then its 99% that you have the CAS and Crank wired up wrong some how.

I'll try the 6-bolt CAS swap. The car did run with the 6-Bolt wiring CAS plug in place, so I think if I put everything back to how it was it should work. But then wouldn't I chose NOT to invert it for non 95-96 on DSMlink? Cause the previous owner only used SAFC on his ECU. It was an EPROM but no DSMlink. How would he have been able to solve that?

Also think I threw away the CAS plug for the 6bolt, better start looking.

Thanks for your help so far.

Okay, thanks.

Just to see if I can stay with the current 97-99 CAS, does anyone have a diagram on how its supposed to be hooked up?
