Hey guys, upon getting the trans and engine out of my 97 gsx, i decided while waiting to buy engine parts, i will tear into the trans and find out whats wrong. Let me explain what was happening.
While driving one day, i did a pretty light launch at about 4500rpm, as usual the car jumped, but this time, within less than a second, there was a lovely POP, and it acted like the clutch was slipping. The car would move under its own power, and rev up great, but not as we all know it should. I thought i had popped something on the clutch, until while driving it home, i noticed that the speedometer was still going up with the rpm, i could rev it up and be going 10 mph, while the gauge showed 50...
Upon getting into the diff tonight, heres what i found. It looks to be two pieces one one side, but for sure, this side is stripped out. Now are both "parts" supposed to drive the shaft, or just the inside one??
Pic!!
As you can see, the outside row is clearly stripped, but the inside is not. Is this the supposed "weak link" in the front diff in the 2g eclipses, normal, or is this just screwed up??
Any help is greatly appreciated.
