Alright, after two months of trying things and searching, I have given up on figuring this out on my own. Long story short: Bought EvoScan, bought generic Vag Com 409.1 cable (known to work with EvoScan), got FTDI read error 4, cable never worked with EvoScan, or any other logger such as MHIScan (it just spewed random nubers on MHIScan).

Round 2: Bought Openport 2.0 cable (known to work with EvoScan Beta, ECUFlash and Mut Logger), got EvoScan beta ECUFlash and Mut Logger, recieve error Cable Not Responding, cannot get any program to work with it at all.

I just don't get it, and the more I search the more I feel like no one else has ever had this problem because I cannot find anything on either error! I have tried at least 5 sets of drivers with no change, and I know I have the proper drivers for the OpenPort 2.0 cable. I have a Toshiba Sattelite A105-S101 that I'm using to datalog, and it is by far capable of running these programs. I'm just plain out of ideas as to why I can't get this to work.

So please, can anyone help me get this working? I know it works with my Talon, people are using it right now to reflash their ECU's! Am I trully the only person having these issues? I appreciate any advice, thanks in advance.

This thread is a little old but, I too, are having the exact same problem. Installed EVOSCAN. Tried the 14 dollar cable that everybody buys... and no luck. What is everyone doing to get em to work?

I'm still not sure myself what to do about this situation. I PM'd a few people who confirmed that the cheap cable works with EvoScan, and it is 100% well-known to work with MHIScan, but it still will not work with my laptop.

Meanwhile I plugged the OpenPort 2.0 cable into my brothers computer with Vista and it runs perfectly fine. I logged with evoscan and tested actuators, then pulled my ROM from my computer with EcuFlash, with absolutely no problems. I'm completely stumped as to why it won't work on my laptop, I was about to just reinstall windows and go for broke (I don't have anything on it to begin with really) but I have Home Edition of XP and therefore I can't do that.

So, I'm still looking for the answer too, and I can't trully believe that not a single other person has run into this issue other than us. I contacted Tactrix, but the phone never gets answered, and my emails don't get much of a response. If anyone has solved this I'd by far appreciate a solution, I'm not sure my brother will take kindly to me waltzing off with his computer for very long. Thanks for any help.

oh wow, for some reason, miss read 2009 on the date posted for 2008, thought it was a year old post.

anyways.

yup. i was told evoscan was the bomb, especially for the price, and that Vag Com 409.1 cable that you can buy cheap right off ebay works great... but... i haven't been able to get it to do a damn thing for me. as a side note, i have a 2009 hp with vista laptop (dv7-1245dx), decent spec's so i know it's not my laptop.

but since day one, anytime i start the program, or press any button within evoscan v2.5... a big message deal pops up "Thread failed during processing" and below it is a TON of crap, words and numbers that i have no clue about...

then when i have my cable plugged in car-laptop, and try to "start datalogging", of course it doesn't work then it says "Error: Access to the path 'C:\Program Files (x86)\EvoScan\EvoScan v2.5\SavedDataLogs\EvoScanDataLog_2009.07.29_18.46.03.csv' is denied.
Info: Datalogger Ended." in the EVENT LOG window.

and then! now that my car is actually running and i REALLY need a logger and now very annoyed, i pretty much scanned all through limitless site trying to figure this out, after lookin through limitless site... i noticed this picture.
<img src="http://www.limitless.co.nz/cables/images/EvoScan_OpenPort_Cable_Plug.jpg">

so i got rid of some pins and made so my 16 pin obd2 side of my cable was identical with evoscan's cable. i figured, screw it, cant get this piece of crap to work anyways, might as well try it.

..... and of course... didn't work. so, i dont know. somebody else has to have went through all this bogus stuff and found some answers. what am i missing. bought the software, bought the cable... yet nothin works. And i found like 5 other obd2 software programs, got em all on my laptop, cant get them to work either (because of the cable i would imagine)

If you haven't figured it out yet, this may help. Open up Evoscan and look at which kind of cable you have selected. 2.0 or 1.3.

I had 2.0 selected and I was getting the same error messages and then I clicked on the 1.3 bubble and it started datalogging perfectly fine. Make sure you have OBDII selected in the select ECU dropdown bar. Reason I say that is mine resetted when I did this.

Hope this helps
