Ok, I just recently got a 90 ecpilse 2.0 DOHC
It had some noise in the engine and the lady didnt want to fix it. So she takes it to a shop, and a guy there keeps it. Well, with my recent string of bad luck (# failed car attempts) I stumble upon this car. He tears into it, says something about someone left a bolt out of a ballancing shaft. So he gets the car running, after sitting for a year or so. And I take delivery. Well, it has the idle surge. I researched that already. But the major thing that has me concerned is the noise in the head. It sounds like valves tapping. Its constant. Loud and has me worried. I did some more reaseach and found tons of bulletins on valve train noise. So im asking here.

What do you think? Is this normal ( I already know the answer) and how in the world do I fix it?

I really like the way the car handles. And would like to keep it. So any and all help would be well.... you know.

If it's a tap, tap, tapping then it's most likely lifter noise. You can try changing to a heavier weight fully synthetic oil like 10-40 or 15-40 that should quiet it down a bit. If that doesn't help you should change your lifters. Hope that helps! :D
