im buying a 97 eclipse spyder with the 2.4 in it and i was wondering if it would even be worth turbocharging or if i should pay more to get a 4g63 and swap it???

Well you can take that crank and put it into a 4g63 and make it a stroker. Or you can build the 2.4 up and make it a beastly 2.4l turbo. 4g64t would make alot of power built up. But these mods are not cheap and are not easy.

If you want boost, best thing to do is turbo it. You can use a stock dsm manifold, mass airflow sensor, intake pipe and all that jazz but the motor can take low boost only. You can even do the 4g63 dual over head cam head swap if you want. My buddy did all of the above on his spyder. He blew the motor after a while and had it built with forged internals. Now he runs 20+ psi.

Turbo it. Get a 4g63t head and swap it in, along with some 450cc injectors if you can find a stock set in good cond. and while you're at it throw in some forged pistons to be on the safe side.

Take the motor out, use the 4g64 block, get it built put a 1g or 2g DOHC head on it and run your turbo. Thats the best way but it does cost a good amount of money.

I agree with putting boost to the 2.4. This will give you more power and torque when compared to the 2.0. As stated previously though put on 2.0 head. Doing this you have alot of potential for a monster build.
