Hey guys i did read the threads on here about it but I was wondering if anyone knew for sure what motor I got when I bought a JDM motor from Canada. I was supposed to be a 2g 7 bolt eclipse motor. It came with a big 16g, NO cyclone intake(plain silver), black top CAS, yellow top injectors, external oil cooler housing, the tranny mount was different, and the valve cover that says Mitsubishi at the top. If anyone knows for sure let me know, I sold/changed most of the stuff anyways but I still have things left over for sale and such plus it would be nice to know what I had. Im away at school so I cant check numbers. Sounds like an Evo motor...

This would be a possibility if it wasnt a 7 bolt...:p

Yep, the same in my Ply - Galant RS 6bolt with the 16G and Yellowtops 510cc's ... Not complaining on this end.

I take it you didn't see the part where he said...

.

But to the OP... If the CAS part number is: MD184529 then it's either an Evo 1, 2, or 3... If the throttle body part number is MD322173 then it's either an Evo 2 or Evo 3... and the Yellow top injectors should have 540 stamped on them. Timing belt cover (top) has part number MD191805, and bottom has MD191807

Another thing, All evo 1-2-3 motors ignition coils should have a silver sticker between the no 1 and 4 coil reading MD192126, SHOULD also have RED and BLUE only wires to each coil; and the connector should be a Triangle shape 3 PIN!!! IF it is different then it's not an evo engine.

The valve cover was a titanium color, I will check the numbers on the throttle body and CAS when I get home. I thought it was interesting to see a black top on a so called 2g eclipse 7 bolt. also the throttle body was cracked so I took it off but still have it. I put a 1g on and this was also weird...where RRE and other companies say the intake manifold must be rimmed out to accept the 1g th. body this intake did not it already matched up. Here is a picture of it but you really cant see much.

Notice the intake mani., cas, thermostat housing, different power steering, and tranny mount:

Heres a picture of the valve cover, ignore all else because it was already changed:

I believe I red somewhere that the oil dipstick being white also means something...I believe evo motor.

yeah its obviously not a 6 bolt if your saying its a 7 bolt..people need to learn how to read and understand what the thread is about. So in your case it would be infact a evo 2,3 motor.

Well thats really only good news I suppose. Does anyone know if there are any advantages to building these blocks? I was going to build the 7 bolt 2.4 I had in my spyder before I swapped it but are the Evo 7 bolts incapable of crank walk like dsm 4g63 7 bolts? Or should I just stick with my plans of building the 2.4?

Sorry, but all motors are prone for crankwalk if the thrust bearings start to let go.

Why the scare on crankwalk is that those certain cranks were made wrong and the thrust bearings didn't work with them too well.

Tonnage of articles on this topic of crankwalk. Yet, tonnage of owners rebuilt 7bolt blocks and did a great job of eliminating crankwalk with the correct thrust bearings in them to fit the crank.

You'd think though that Mitz would build a better motor for their EVO's being that they were designed for performance and all the other factors that EVO's are known for.

Yes but the Evo motors used different thrust bearings than eclipse 7 bolts I believe.

From RRE, regarding Evo engines:

"The valve covers of the EVO 1-3 motors will be a kind of titanium color. They are the same as a US 2G motor with nothing fancy. They have the smaller 2G style intake ports, a small runner intake manifold with a larger plenum and a larger throttle body than a 2G motor. Still they are hard to find. Many are from other 4G63 powered cars and can have small 13G sized turbos. They will not bolt into a 1G because there are no provisions for the front roll stopper motor mounts that bolt to the block. Everything in Japan from 94 and up has the front and rear roll stopper motor mounts on the transmission 2G Eclipse style. Many people are running around yapping about how they have an EVO motor in their car. If it bolts into a 1G, it isn't an EVO motor."
