External Wastegate Questions.

I was thinking of different options for my setup and was thinking maybe an external wastegate would be more beneficial to me.

I am wanting to run my 14b, I have an Evo3 manifold. I was going to get a 16g ported turbine housing to cure boost creep but was thinking instead, I would just get a Punishment Racing O2 housing and Tial external wastegate. That would take care of boost creep.

I wouldn't need to port the wastegate portion of the housing inlet if I went this route, right? Since it is an external wastegate....

Also, what do I do with the wastegate actuator and arm/flapper for the internal wastegate?

Can boost be controlled by the external wastegate or do I still need a boost controller?

You have to remove the wastegate arm/flapper to run o2 mounted external wastegate

Yes, you'll have to remove the arm and flapper, plug the hole in which the arm when through the front of the housing, and then hog out the wastegate passage in the turbine housing.

You can use just the wastegate itself to control boost. But that would require using the appropriate spring(s) to get you to your desired amount of boost.

What do you mean hog out the passage in the housing? Plug it up from the inside?

Also, is it better to have it recirculated or dumped...and is there a sound difference?

The wastegate passage inside of the turbine housing will need to be opened up so that it doesn't pose as a flow restriction to the wastegate. Plugging it won't allow your external wastegate to function.

It's honestly a matter of personal preference. It's usually cheaper and easier to atmospherically dump it, but some don't like the noise. It's definitely louder when dumped.

i know all cars are different but i noticed a differnece when i recirculated it. it actually made my car run alot better. i know our cars need a little back pressure thats why i never really went a full 3 inch exhaust but its just my 02. plus it looks alot nicer in the engine bay

trust me our cars get plenty of back pressure with the turbo that's on it, the less restriction the better

when you look at the backside of the hotside you will see where the flapper would seat, this is the area that needs to be ported once you remove the flapper and arm.

Why does that need to be ported when the external wastegate is on the opposite side? Or am I getting things mixed up here?
