I just rebuilt my engine from the ground up, and possibly planning on kicking it over for the first time tonight. I will double, triple, and quadruple check every line, sensor, and clamp as well as jog the engine with plug wires and fuel disconnected as well. I know the drill.

The two tuning items I have on the car would be an AFC NEO and a MAF Translator (the oldschool one). I figure I would first make all of the settings on the MAFT to my injectors. Currently, I have a set of 560cc injectors on the car.

I've been reading up about how the engine advances timing with the AFC's, but all of what I ready didn't talk about the use of both the NEO and MAFT. (Yes, I have a wideband, but not a logger)

First question, with the MAFT on the car, does that also make the engine advance the timing?

Second question, what other precautions should I take before kicking it over?

I sure as hell will be counting my blessings before I turn that key, and will inspect the engine like a freakin' brain surgeon! It is a small portion about the money I have spent, but more of the fact I have invested over a couple hundred hours of my time building this engine from the ground up with my own hands from the bare block to the completed long block.

If there are any helpful links to threads, posts, or tutorials online... I am more than happy to read anything i might not have already yet.

Piggybacks like the MAFT and the SAFC cause timing changed because they lie to the ECU about the incoming airflow which changes the ECU's calculation of engine load which is the index into the timing maps. If the device isn't set to change the airflow (corrections) then it won't contribute to the problem.

Please get your NEO updated. It has bugs when used with Karmen MAFs.

Around when were the bugs fixed. The NEO I have was bought less than a year ago straight from AMS in store, so I would figure that the one they sold me would probably be up to date given less than a year ago.

In the past few weeks. Like I said get it updated. I told you about this before when you were looking for a manual. Apex'i has since supposedly fixed the problem.
