Heli-coil / Keen-serts / Time-serts / Perma-coil

So, after reading the threads on here, I've found 4 solutions for fixing stripped out exhaust mani studs.

1. Heli-coils
2. Keen-serts
3. Time-Serts
4. Perma-coils

With the Heli-coil kits:
Now, I actually have 2 studs stripped out, one M8 and one M10. Will the insert kit work for both? I know I need to get the correct inserts for the hole (M8x1.25 and M10x1.25), but will the actual inserter tool work for both? I can buy a bit and tap for the other set cheaper than buying 2 complete sets.

Also where do you buy any of these kits yet. I found the Heli-coils at Advance Auto, but I have a feeling they might be an expensive route. They want $50 for the kit and $10-15 for inserts.

I prefer helicoils. They make them in lots of different thread sizes and pitches.

Heli-Coils aren't cheap. Neither are replacement heads. Each size has its own insertion tool and tap.

Call a local hardware distributor if there is one. Most of those guys carry them.

A local machine shop might let you borrow the taps and install tools. A cheaper M8 install tool might work for the M10 too. These tools are just a rod with a slot in them to engage the tang. You will definately need the STI tap for both sizes, there is no getting around that.

Keenserts use standard taps and don't require an install tool but they do require a bigger drilled hole.

Helicoil and keensert are brand names that everyone uses. Sometimes searching for "wire thread insert" or "helical wire thread insert" and "key insert" will yield better results.
