Where to buy holset turbo
I've been reading a portion of the Holset turbo threads at the turbo tech section but i honestly cant keep up reading all of them coz it's just too long. But i think ive read enough to consider this brand.
Problem is, i cant seem to find a vendor selling this turbo. Can anyone point me to a site selling these turbos?
Also, my goal is to reach 400whp with a fully rebuilt 7 bolt with all the supporting mods OR a 6 bolt block also with all the supporting mods (still debating on which route to take).
Thanks in advance.

eBay is you want to go the cheap way but you'll have to rebuild it or Tims Turbos or Turbo Trader if you want to go knew with a BEP bolt-on housing.
If you're only shooting for 400whp you don't need to build the block. Mods to the head can do it like cams, valved, etc...

ebay, cummins forum, or the junkyard.
Although the ebay ones are somewhat expensive...you can find them sometimes on there for dirt. I'm searching for one now as well...and eBay is doing me NO good lol.
But just keep looking everywhere, and yes, a holset will get the job done for you. You won't need to build the block for your goal - the only reason I lightly built mine was because it was a good deal and I got it already put together. With ported 2g mani, cams, the boost up, and a good tune, you'll find you're making 400 hp.

I think most people would recommend using a 6 bolt as the starting platform. Like mentioned above, eBay is a great place to get one or on a cummins diesel forum. The turbo you would be best with would be an hx40. The next best choice would be an hx35. The trucks your looking for are the 94 to 01 Dodge 1500, 2500, or 3500 series with the Cummins obviously. They are known as the 2nd generation trucks. Don't worry about what exahust side is on the truck. ( The Turbo Trader) < --- sell bolt on Mitsu housings for the hx35 and hx40's...

Before you buy Holset, you must decide what kind of manifold you are going to run: Mitsu/stock/, T3 or T4. After that you look for what ever turbo suits your needs- hx-35; hx-40; H1C; H1E. This will save you money in the first place.

well my engine is due for a rebuilt already. it's completely bone stock and i actually spun bearing number 3 already. since it's my daily driver, and i didnt had that much cash on my me when it happened, i just had my crank regrinded and used cheap bearings on it. Everyday i drive my car and boost 15 psi only, i get scared that i wont be able to go home hahaha.
but now i've saved up and im getting ready to do a reabuild. Not enough for forged internals though. I got already new 2g OEM pistons and rings, i have a used 7 bolt crank that i got for free, planning to buy clevite rod and main bearings, ARP studs all the way, cams, springs and retainers, etc. As mentioned above, i have a 6 bolt N/A block just sitting in the garage, so i have 2 options on the build which im still debating on.

if you have a 6bolt, id do that one, and you dont have to go too crazy with the build. the block i have i love, and it didnt cost me out the ass either.
just make it bulletproof, you dont have to make it SUPERBLOCK u know?

I would prefer a mitsu manifold because i dont want to spend the extra$$$ on having a customized tubular manifold which i can have my local exhaust shop do here. Having said that though, if the holset turbo i get does save me a lot of money, then i can get whatever holset that is available and have a manifold built for it.
as for the turbo, im looking for something that flows more like an FP 18 or fp 20g (or bigger) im not familiar with the holset models so your help will make my holset shopping easier.

Do you have to rebuild these turbos even if they have xx,xxx miles on them? or are they as strong and reliable as the holset threads say they are?
if in case the internals get damaged, where do i have it fixed? those are the things that worry me.

yup i my thoughts exactly thats why im not going to spend on forged rods (much more on the freaking expensive forged crank), so "super" bearings and fasteners would be enough for me they're affordable anyway. Plus i got a super cheap deal on 2g OEM pistons and rings so i can use that on either block. but before i buy the bearings, flywheel, clutch, ARP's...i'd like to make a decision first on what block to use. If only i could transfer my oil and water pump on to the 6 bolt from my 7 bolt, id be right on it, but thats extra $$$$ which i can spend on other parts on my wish list though.
So in the meantime, what im shopping for are parts that can be used on either blocks like the turbo

I never installed it . In fact my car has no motor. Im going with the stock manifold though, I will weld a t3 flange on it.

why don't you get a BEP housing?
Goes right on the stock mitsu mani...500hp BOLT ON.
or if you are going to keep the t3 housing just snag a t3 tubular somewhere, save you some welding and headache.

hahaha yeah. only did that because 1) i was originally planning on rebuilding the 7 bolt block, 2) it has a higher compression than OEM 6 bolts, and 3) im running meth anyway so helps me safeguard the pistons

i like the high compression, that way wen/if i go to water/meth im safe, but even without, although it needs more fuel i dont mind it.
i havent been able to take the car over 4000, bc my speedo is broke, so my stutterbox is stuck on, but once i get that fixed, LOOKOUT. I can tell you that 4th gear, a stomp its alot stronger than my stock 7bolt with 14b.
ps chris - u have pm!
