If i do the rear 02 delete as listed in the vfaq i would no longer need a cat correct? i ask because i have a 3" turbo back exhaust and had to get a cat weled in. and awas wondering if i did this i could remove the cat and sell it.

Yeah if you did it right then you could run without the cat, and then sell the cat. Just be careful though, because not having a cat will result in a big fine in a lot of states.

I have my rear o2 sensor and no cat. Car runs perfectly fine. So I don't see why you have to get rid of your o2 sensor. My bung is on the cat-back. I eliminated my cat with about a 6 inch 3" diamter steel pipe and had it welded up ($35). No CEL, no misfire, or anything. I do reccommend, however, that you make sure it's not against state law, and that it passes emissions test. Other than that, you run the risk of a hefty fine if you get pulled over.

You don't have to delete the rear o2 to take the cat off. All the rear o2 does is make sure the cat is working properly. The most it will do is give you a CEL for cat efficiency.

2GAWD4U2NV, There is a federal law that says you can't take the cat off your car unless it is to replace it. So, it is illegal in any state in the counrty to remove the cat. Taking the rear o2 out would be illegal also since it is considered emmisions equipment.

For reference purposes go ahead and post up that law.

I'll go ahead and be the first to tell you, in a state that has no emissions testing you can have any exhaust shop remove the catalytic converter with no questions asked. I personally do not run one and have not for the past 6 years.

As far as it's legality is concerned, it is not regulated here therefore it's not an issue.

This basically says all cars must be manufactured with a cat and it is illegal to remove a cat or reinstall unless there's something wrong with it.

Federal law generally means that states must at minimum comply, but are free to put in more stringent rules. To be more clear please post up good ol' 'Bama's laws.

Just because they DON'T check doesn't mean they shouldn't be. IF one day you get Mr. Stickler-for-rules checking your car, you'll end up paying.

Lose the 'tude, brah.

The Alabama law reads similarly, but as I stated it is not regulated, checked, or monitored in any form or fashion. Essentially, Alabama has no emissions laws. Never will your car be checked for aftermarket parts, modifications, or emissions equipment.

It won't be checked.

Federal law means the law can't be done away with by a state. It is just like the federal law of having to be 21 to purchase a pistol from a gun dealer. Your state just doesn't check for the cat. You let somebody from the federal government find out that a shop is removing cats on registered cars and that shop will be heavily fined and possibly shut down. If somebody from the federal government sees your car has no cat you will be fined. It doesn't matter that your state has no emmision INSPECTION. They still have emission laws set by the federal government that everybody is supposed to abide by.

I know this because I am a licensed NY state inspector and we must know all the laws to become a licensed inspector. Last I knew, the minimum fine for a shop taking a cat off would be $2,000 to the shop and $2,000 to the person doing the work at the shop.
