Hey I'm about to replace my oil seal on the driver side axle. Any tips for removing/Install?
I searched, but could not find a thread on the issue.

I bought a seal from the dealer, but I guess I wasn't clear enough that my car was AWD even though I told the guy 5 times.

twooooooooo geeee A-W-D. Driver side axle.

But he sent me two right side axle seals. so..
I'm going out and finding the correct MD719710 seal tomorrow.

so back to the subject.

Tips? How do you remove? just pop it out?
Install tips?

Thanks!

unless if you have a awsome impact, don't forget to break lose the axle nut before you lift the car off the ground and take the tire off.

Otherwise you will have to get your 10 year old stepsister to push the brakes as hard as she can LOL.

Also, drain the tranny fluid before you pull the axle, otherwise you might take a shower in it.... My buddy did that last week.

Another good tip, when you go to remove the axle, you can either try prying it out to pop the spring, or a really easy way is to use a ball joint fork.

Don't forget to greese or use neverseize on all the splines and anything you want to be able to take apart easy the next time.

Awesome. I know how to do all the work to get the axles out. After all I just bought this transmission and put it in. LOL. But! while we're on the subject, what's the part called that locks the axle in? It's that ring around the part that goes into the transmission. I think i'll need a new one of those as well. It doesn't pop in or anything; it' can move back and forth about an inch without the carrier bearing bolted to the block. I think that's why i need a new seal :p.

I Lol'd at the transmission bathing.
I did that on my 240 about 2 years ago LOL.
Tires ARE off the ground, but yes, I'll give my fiance something to do rather than sit there and look pretty, and have her press the brakes while I impact the locking nut off.

But back to the oil seal. Do you just take a flat head and pop it out?
Thanks again :)
