Okay first of all I just bought a 99 eclipse with about 115k on it I also bought a t3/t4, blow off valve, and a manual boost controller. Having said that I was wondering what internals don't I need and if the compression is gonna be to high in the 420a or is it possible to keep the same compression and still boost the car?

The compression ratio on a 420A is 9.6:1. You can boost the car as it is. It's ok for low boost like 5-8 psi. With supporting mods of course. You're going to need an intercooler and piping with it. And also an AFC so you can tune it.

AFC won't work in boost with a 420a.

You'll need a ML/FCD and something to supply fuel for boost. The generic, low-buck route is a 12:1 FMU + 255hp Walbro.

Prior to boosting, test compression and vacuum, change the timing belt, idler, and water pump, and otherwise get up-to-date on the vehicle's maintenance.

thanks for the help the walbro I already had on order. The goal that I'm trying to reach is 400whp on a daily driver. Is this to outlandish with this turbo? Also please be more specific I don't know to much about all the abbreviations. I plan on building the motor in the future (internals).

t3/t4 doesn't tell us what kind of turbo you have - so I have no idea what kind of power it is capable of.

For your goal, you will need either PortFueler, or MegaSquirt. (go with the MegaSquirt)

ML/FCD = Missing Link or Fuel Cut Defender. You only need one - I recommend the FCD. This is used to prevent the factory ECU from seeing boost. If the factory ECU sees boost, it will cut fuel. If you use a MegaSquirt, you won't need this.

A 12:1 FMU with a 255hp can support around 200whp.

Read through the 420a section on this site, and 2gnt.com, to familiarize yourself with the 420a and various tuning and fueling methods.

okay...maybe you can tell me what this means. On the turbo it has the writing A/R .50 I got the turbo, blow off valve, and manual boost controller for $100 so I got them for a steal and the turbo still has the caps on it and has never been used. Also I don't have the exhaust manifold or the piping and I was looking on eBay at what they had I figured if I got the piping from there it wouldn't be that big of deal but I am sceptical about the manifolds and intercoolers. Do you recommend getting them from there or is there a better place to get them.

Youre worried about eBay intercoolers but not of the $100 "t3/t4" turbos?

Search for "ebay turbo" before you install it. You may be in for a reality check. Remember, not everything cheap is of good quality.

Yeah, I definitely wouldnt trust ebay turbos. My car has one on it. It came with it. And guess what, its blown. Who wouldve guessed LOL.

*laughs* I didn't get the turbo from eBay I got it from a friend and it came in a full kit for a Honda I'm pretty sure it's a Garrett. But my friend needed money so he sold all the piping and I bought what he had left. But anyways would anyone recommend the manifolds and piping kits that are on eBay? And could you tell me what the A/R .50 means that is on the turbo? I would never buy a turbo from eBay.

unless u know the exact brand of manifold i would say hell no. unless u want to spend lots of time and money getting the cracks welded. what ever u do dont get a pacesetter mani(garbage). on the FMIC, yeah u could go with a cheap version but it one of the things u really dont want to go cheap with. but it really depends on your goals for the car and your budget.

still everyone is telling me what not to get but could someone please tell me the place to pick up the exhaust manifold and piping?

Let me answer some of your unanswered questions.

Is 400 HP off that turbo outlandish? Have no idea until you let us know what exact turbo it is.

However, 400 HP off that 420A motor with bone stock internals is outlandish and I am seeing a future parts car post from you. Now to appease the 420A tech heads here, it is not a number that that motor cannot handle, with the proper love and build, but you don't want to start dumping boost and power into a motor that was basically designed to get that car from point A to point B with the Eclipse styling, the performance aspect was not there. Before you drop money into putting a turbo in this car, do the internals first, get that car boost ready, because unless you are using a freakishly large turbo, 8-9 pounds of boost isn't going to touch that 400 HP mark.

It is ok to buy a manifold off eBay, as long as you make sure you are getting a new cast manifold. Before placing it on the car however, inspect down to the dirt spots from your fingers you left behind. Make sure the welds are quality and stable and the material not too thin.

I would recommend searching around on the intercooler setup, it's very important and not worth compromising ove a few extra months of saving some bones to do it right.
