I recently found an apexi cat eliminating downpipe for real cheap and figured, what the heck do I need a cat for if i've already passed emissions, so I bought it and put it on this past weekend. Let me just say that is one of the most rediculous things to install if you do not have an Apexi 3" catback to match it. My car came with an HKS Hi-Power exhaust, which is about 2.5" in diameter when it meets the cat, the apexi starts at like 2.4" and ends at 2.8", what the heck is that ? Anyway it also is about 3.25" too long to fit on any cat back except Apexi, I had to chop out a 3 inch section of my HKS and weld the exhaust back together to make this dp fit. Is it a problem that my exhaust goes from 2.5" to 3" then back to 2.5" ? I ended up wasting 3 hours saturday, figured Id share this in case anyone is considering buying this without the Apexi catback.

This might not help you but if you have a fwd and got an awd down pipe that might be part of your problem. I just put an apexi 3 inch cat delete down pipe on tonight and everything went great. By the way I don't have an apexi cat back its some off brand 3 inch cat back. But to try and answer your question its not gonna hurt you to have it go from 2.5 to 3 back to 2.5 but its not going to be as efficient as straight 3 inch exhaust.
