Need to supply switched power to water pump

Hi, I'm putting in an electric water pump and I need to splice in somewhere to an ignition on wire that has a 15A fuse on the circuit. I read a few posts that said to use the fans but I couldn't find power with my multimeter, so if anyone can suggest a wire to splice under the hood I'd really appreciate it.

There only going to be power to the fans when the cars hot and needs the fans to run. So its not a good idea to tie in there. You want to find one that comes on when you turn the key on. I will go out and look at my car and see if i see any good places to tie in. Ok now if it were me I would go to fusebox where the ignition comes off the battery and run a wire that would handle 15 amp to a open fuse hole and put a 15 amp fuse in then run it to the water pump. That way you know you water pump will be power correct. You can take a volt meter and when you key is on look for a 12 volt feed then turn off and see if it go away, but i would stay away from that because it could be the start of problem for whatever you tie it to. I would wire a light in the dash so if the power would go to the pump you would know the pumps not working.

You'd be much better off to find an unused spot in your fuse box and run wiring off of there. It's a much cleaner and professional job. If you splice into an existing circuit you may overload it's amperage capacity and blow fuses and or fry something. You'll need wire, pins to connect into back of fuse panel and a fuse. You'd have to make sure the free location on the fuse box is switched 12v not constant.

The other thing you can do is run a wire to constant 12V at the fuse panel (nice install) or to battery (kinda hack) and use a circuit under the hood or elsewhere as the signal voltage for a relay. That way you have a dedicated circuit for the water pump. (add an inline fuse of course)
