I am posting this for a friend. His bone stock 91' TSI has been running extremely rich, then hardly rev's past 3k rpms and pops. I unplugged the MAS and the car started idling normally and revved up normal.

Does this mean its a bad MAS? I'm not too familiar with the whole MAS thing seeing as I run MAP.

Any input would be appreciated, thanks!

A few days back I unplugged my maf while the car was running, and the car DID NOT like it. It tried to die right away, and when I'd crack the throttle, the engine whould just choke and gasp. The guy at my local junk yard told me to unplug it to see if it was bad. He didn't want to sell me a part I didn't need. He said if it was bad, the car would run better when you unplugged it. My car was cold when I did it. I don't know if that makes a difference.
