Newmarket,
hi guys,
my suspension has a lot of squeeks in it, and i have looked and my bushings, and also asked my buddy (mechanic) to see where the squeeks were coming from, and there is several bushings, control arm, end link, and few others i beleive, that are worn, or cracked, that are squeeking a lot. I have put new eibach springs, and shiocks about a year ago or so. the ride is somewhat stiff, but i do not want it any stiffer than it already is, as i have major pot holes where i live, and i daily drive it a lot. prefer it to be more comfy instead.

anyways i was wondering exactly how stiff those polyurethane bushings are?
i mean i was even thinking to put back my stock springs on, and just change the bushings, if they end up being too stiff. but i'd rather now.
so my questions is how stiff they are, and in my situation would it be better to stick with some rubber bushings, or if there is any other kind of bushings I can get?

also where can i find some rubber bushings? is there a set i can get from dealer, as far as i know, they only come with parts you order. (ex. control arm bushings come with control arms).

anyways help me out here guys, what solutions can i have?

thanks a lot.

I like Genuine Mitsubishi bushings... they're really stiff compared to no-name replacements, and absorb more shock and vibration than poly.

Besides, poly always ends up splitting or cracking for me. Energy suspension supposedly puts graphite in the poly to prevent this.

where can i get the bushings?
i tried looking all over? the only actual SETS that i found was from Energy.

where can i get the oem style bushings, or rubber ones, or whatever. I am looking for something less stiff and noisy than the polyurethane ones. My friend installed them on his car about a week ago, i haven't been in it yet, but he says that he has to basically avoid pot holes, cus he feels like he is braking his ass when if he flyes over them. My roads are pretty bad here, i live away from the city, and take rough roads sometimes, so I want rubber bushings, or something that is very similar to that.
can't find anything!!!
help me out, on some manufacturers, links. etc.

thanks guys.

I haven't had time to bolt-em-up yet, but I just laid down the loot for two brand-new genuine mitsubishi control arms. You get the bushings, new ball-joints and save the time/money factor of having to install new bushings in an old arm. I think stock bushings need to be pressed in and out with a hydraulic press. That would cost$. You know you're getting decent quality ball-joints and bushings then, too. Get 'em from an online wholesaler dealership. The savings over the retail dealer price will more than pay for the shipping. I got mine from southwest mitsubishi, in TX. Just google that s##t. They seemed legit.
If you want, think of it like this. Get new control arms while you still can. Keep the old ones. When you get around to it, get some new ball-joints pressed into the old arms, put the softer urethane bushings in, and the you have a spare pair, ready to go. You can then swap them out to compare for yourself, and you'd have a spare set, too.
P.S. I've started getting told by the dealership that things are discontinued. My car is getting OLD. If there's any fancy genuine parts you been mulling over purchasing, you might want to do it while you still can.

If you're looking for comfy I don't think poly bushings are the way to go. They're pretty hard and will result in a stiffer ride. OEM rubber bushings will be just fine for what you're looking for and they won't be hard on your suspension like the poly's will be. JNZtuning.com has a lot of OEM parts for very reasonable prices.

Do you have access to a press? brownfinger's right about the bushings having to be pressed it. You have to get the old bushing out first, melting it works fine - then clean up the housing and press the new bushing in. In the long run it may be better to just replace the entire assembly that needs the bushing. It shouldn't be that much more expensive either.

well look i replaced the front control arms and balljoins just recently, it was a recall for the 1997 talong tsi awd. I just was wondering if I can just get my hands on the bushings themselves, the OEM ones, i tried searching jnz, and other places, can't seem to find the OEM bushings though. If anyone can find it, please let me know.
If I can't find the bushings themselves, I guess I may have to go for polyurethane bushings, but then I'd probably change the springs back to stock, so the ride is not very harsh.
I dont have the press, but I was thinking to do all the work myself, and just take it to some shop with a press to press them in, but i'd install everything back on myself.
anyways if anyone can do me a favour and see if there is any rubber bushings specifically they can find would be awesome, i've searched everywhere, and can't find them, unless they come with control arms, and such..

The front control arms come with new bushings in them already so you should have new bushings now if you changed them.

i want to replace all the bushings. that's why i was wondering if there is a set, or if i can get them somewhere by piece.

i replaced front control arms yes, but there is still other bushings need replacings.
not sure which ones yet, but i know some need replacing, so i wanted to just do them all OEM, instead of doing poly ones.

go in to a Mitsubishi dealership repair department, they'll pull your car up on the screen and take it from there...

REAL oem is much stiffer than generic replacement from the autoparts store... they're not harsh and last way longer... Generics (from local autoparts store) will give you the smoothest ride, but I don't recommend them.

ya i was just hoping to do it myself, just wanted to find if there is an actual set from dealership or some other brand, that is rubber instead of poly. so far i know there isn't one, and you can only get the bushings if i buy them with other suspension parts from the dealer.

Oh yeah, I know what you're talking about with the potholes. It's holy hell trying to get to Pacific Mall without rattling my brain too hard. Mistubishi won't help you since we didn't have Mitsubishi in Canada while the DSM were on the market, so go to Chrysler/Dodge to get the factory bushings. I'd prefer to go with factory bushings in your case anyways, as I heard polyurethane bushings wear faster than factory ones because they are not meant to take the abuse that public roads dish out.

So check out Chrysler/Dodge for the stock bushing and you should be good to go.

You can buy them individually from the stealership, just don't let them install them!!! unless you're rich and don't care

thanks for all the replys guys.

i will check out the local Chrysler dealership, once I get the CAPS and dsm CD, so i can check for part numbers and stuff. but probably will just replace all of them at once.
ya i won't let them install it, i'll take it to my mechanic that owns a talon as well. I doubt i will have nor the patience to do it myself.

Thanks guys!
