I'm swapping all my parts over to my new shell.

I jacked my 90 awd up at the front end and I realized, Shit I need to loosen my wheel lugs.

But thin I think , oh, i'll just put it in gear.

I do that and the front wheels rotate still.....

I get under the car and do it, and I watch the driveshaft as I turn a front axle.. the drveshaft moves half an inch then stops, then the fronts continue to rotate...

Is the tranny messed?

There has always been a thump when I switch gears like the rear tires are lagging, but people always said its my carrier bearings...

I thought all the wheels turn together...

Thanks,

Mike

First off putting your car in gear is no substitution for the brakes. Your trans is fine. Drop it to the ground and break the wheels free or get someone to hit the brakes while you break the lug nuts free.;)

Your trans is fine! You have a diff in the front which lets your front wheels move independently from the rears. If you look at it if you're turning the driver's side clockwise (reverse) the passenger's side is going to be going the opposite direction (forward) now if one wheel was on the ground you would not be having this problem but you would be fighting the VC then.

Just installed my trans late last night and finished putting everything together, put the tires on dropped the car on the ground and I am able to put in gear and I than push the car as if the car was in neutral. Before taking the tranny out the car was not able to move after shifting into gear as expected a manual would do. I had this problem once before but I did a few things to correct the issue but I am really tired of guessing....could it be the clutch fork as this was the only thing I did not replace when I put everything in from before?

What'd I call it - the ball socket behind the fork is probably all wobbled out, or the ball itself could be gone as well.

What a lot of tranny techs do on tranny installs - put in a new throwout bearing, fork, ball and a full adjustment so one is all new when completed.

Cool deal I will order all three of them and let you know what happens....:rocks:well back out with the tranny again :rocks:

Been looking for a good reason to replace this old ass clutch fork now is a good enough reason.

Well still been having the same problem as before but this time I jacked the dam car up off the ground started it up and put it in first and let it idle and here is what I got and its not good.

So you're saying if you put the car on the ground, start it up and put it in gear, let off the clutch... the car will not move? Because by that video alone it looks like the diff is keeping it from letting the other wheels move because they are in the air.

Did you think to grab the rotating wheel to see if the other wheel would begin to rotate?

Turn the car off, and turn one wheel - the other wheel should rotate in the opposite direction.

Rear end won't spin due to the coupling fluid isn't activated being no weight on the wheels.

After you did your clutch job, does the car shift and drive any better?

I have been back and forth with John and he says that the front wheels should do this as the open diff will allow it. I can take either side of the front end and turn the tire and the other side does turn in the opposite way as it should. As for the rear end goes John tells me that it should not do this as one or both tires should be rotating and he wants me to check and see if the drive shaft is turning.

After installing the new clutch and things it is still doing the same thing.

Still haven't heard what happens with the car on the ground.

When backing out of the carport the car doesn't want to move really (you can start off but soon as you get in the gas it does not do anything except tach up the RPM's and I can hear something rubbing against one another. At first I thought it my have been the clutch and all but with all new stiff now and still doing the same thing. Also when the car is shut off you can put the car in any gear and your able to push it any where.
