well i just bought a 94 eagle talon tsi awd with a 6 bolt swap in it from a buddy of mine who introduced me to these cars. i have owned it for a whole 3 days and it is no longer running. I was drving home from wally world when i pull into my trailer park and the thing stalls. No suprise there, the coupler between the uicp and the throttle body elbow has a small hole in it. i try to restart it and nothing, wont start. interesting. so i push it into my driveway and try starting it agian. nothing. i start pumping the gas as i turn the key and it starts, sputters and as soon as i stop pumping the pedal it dies. well its saturday night and no place is open so i take off my coupler and i can fit my finger through it. not good im thinking computer is reading false air. so i jerry rig it with some duct tape and throw it back on. same thing. then i disconnect the negatives on the battery and reconnect. still the same. it will not idle and will only fun if i pump the gas. wont run if i hold the gas pedal down. it started raining so i didnt look at it too much. but i know it is a new motor that i was breaking in. i have only got on it once and that was as soon as i got the car ### its been almost a year since ive driven a stick. so to the wisemans and others that know something i dont HELP!!!!!!.

please and thank you:confused:

Well I am a wise ass, not a wiseman, but I'd like to help. I understand your situation well.
Been there done did it. Bought a 'get out of town car' from a wiseass once.
First of all: How do you know it is a good motor? Did you do or see a compression test done on it?
Second: You have to start at the beginning and work on your basic troubleshooting matrix.
1. Is it getting gas to the spark plugs?
2. Are all four spark plugs firing?
Gas? Is it flooding or getting no gas? Go sniff sniff at the exhaust pipe. Amazing what the nose can tell you!
3. Timing. Is the base timing set right? Borrow you Dad's timing light and check it out. Have him turn it over while you stare into the deep recesses of your engine.

Well that should get you going. Good luck and let us crazy DSMer's know how you do.

1st Edit:
Thought I might add the next thing I would do is check the fuel pressure:
I should have added that when you pull the plugs, get them into good light and look at the electrodes carefully. A spark plug can tell you many things.
Examples: Dry and clean = insufficient gas/new plug. Wet and oily = worn rings.
White carbon deposit = too lean + hot engine = poor fuel delivery. Nobody puts old plugs in a fresh motor and if they do, I won't buy from him!!
My last thought is that if it really is a freshly built motor there could be a serious vacuum/boost leak at or after the throttle plate, ie intake gasket. Now I am speculating.

thanks ill check it out. i got the day so i can actually look at it. but ill pulll the plugs and post pics .

so heres a further update it will somtimes start but as soon as i ive it gas it will die. it will run around 1500 rpm then steadily drop withing 10 sec and die. so as it is dropping i give it gas and it dies. these things never happened on my old 91.

Check the MAF wires and such, make sure they didnt come loose?

Sounds like the maf is disconnected or u have a huge exhaust leak somewhere

btw there are no cel and it will start then run for a maximum of 5 sec then die. i unplugged the maf and plugged it back in to make sure it was in. but i am starting to wonder do you guys think its internal???

okay so my fuel pump work and i went to start it but i unplugged the return line of the fuel rail to c if any gas is coming out and had someone crank it and got nothing. so maybe the filter is clogged. what do you guys think.
