cardigan,
my car developed a oil leak slowly, i could smell it every now and then for a day or two and i checked but there was no visable leaks ,but yesterday it started flowing good, nothing at idle but as soon as i put stress on the motor(taking off) it would start leaking almost a steady stream, its up on jack stands now and its wet everywhere so it was hard to trace the general area, but it was coming from behind the turbo and it looked like it was one of the steel lines back there, now after removing the manifold to get a better look i found that all those lines are coolant lines(correct?) the turbo oil lines are fine and the turbo itself is dry, there is one banjo bolt going into the block behind the turbo with a line going to the filler cap housing and the leak seems to be comming from the banjo bolt area but that is a coolant line so am i missing something? i love my car but at this moment i'd love to see it burning:notgood:

next time i get to town i am gonna grab some brake cleaner and do that. Is there anyone out here that might have an idea what this is?:toobad:

Have you checked out to see if your oil pan is leaking anywhere? Possible a rear main seal as well. Until you really clean up the area and put the effort into looking for the oil leak, it will be hard for people to diagnose. You might want to try the UV dye to help trace your oil leak.

So its not the valve cover gasket? Are you burning oil or what? It could be the turbo drain return line. Those do go bad after a number of years and from R/Ring it for turbo swaps and heavy maintenance. I didnt think there was a banjo bolt going into the block. I know there is one for the turbo's oil feed. Oil pan gasket and sealant around it would be my next guess. Your gasket between the oil pump case and block could be a culprit but highly doubtful. Buy some black light die, black light, and the glasses used to detect leaks. Thats how I found all of mine during my second engine swap. UV die..thats what its called. OReiley's has it for sure. Not too sure about Autozone or Advance Auto. Just follow the directions and you should be fine. Pour it in your oil, run the car until the leaks start, take a black light and the yellow glasses and search for leaks. Happy hunting.

hmm tell me more about this uv dye? where can i get it?

Just go to the autostore and ask for a UV dye for oil. you can buy a kit for like 20 bux, comes with dye (read the directions, you should just pour it in your valve cover like regular oil), UV light, and glasses. Dump the dye in and let the car warm up and drive it around a bit. Then come back and close the garage door (or wait til its dark) and put the glasses on with the UV light to find the leaks. The oil leak with dye will show up pretty bright.

nope it burns no oil and its not the valve cover, i replaced it about 6 months ago and not a problem since. turbo return is good, my turbo feed comes from my oil filter housing and its good, it seems to be comming from just under the large steel coolant tube that runs from one side of the block to the other(everything above that is dry) there is two other small steel lines there too bu it looks like their coolant as well:( i had it idleing on jack stands and no leak even reving it, i rode the clutch with my foot on the brake and it would leak from the front of the motor just below that large coolant line

this car has treated me great so i supose shes alowed to have a leak every now and then :talon:

Try taking off your exhaust manifold heat shield and see if the oil is leaking from the exhaust stud.

thats the first thing i did. the manifold is off now, its dry on the head. it seems to be leaking from the front of the motor just below that large coolant line, i picked up some brake clean today so i hope tomorow i will get a chance to clean the motor up .thanks for your input everyone:thumb:
