iratic idle on my 1g

so here is my proble. some times when i start my car up the car idles at around 180-2200rpm. after i drive it for awhile it goes back down to normal range! what causes this and how can i fix it?? also some time when i accelerate hard and let off the throttle the rpms dip down to around 400-500, some times it even dies!!!! help me please, this is very annoying and makes my beloved dsm hard to drive!

Check the IAC on the Throttle Body. Check for vacuum leaks. Check fuel pressure at the rail. Bad valves can cause similiar symptoms as can a header or intake gasket leak.
