Rebuilt my first tranny, once installed symptoms-
-Shift linkage is hard to shift, can get into every gear, reverse is hardest
-If I release the clutch, in any gear or neutral, the car dies as if I was holding the brakes on.
-All wheels spin freely, still happens if all 4 are off the ground.
I have been advised that these things could be the problem-
-the reverse idler gear is upside down
-the interlock is missing
-the 3rd/4th shift fork is upside down
OK, Here's where I a at now. I pulled the tranny, but I am not experienced enough to know what I am looking for. What I need help with, is how do the gears turn? With the end/top of the tranny off I can put a 36mm socket on both shafts. I turned both shafts freely yesterday, but I still don't know if they were turning as they should. My whole problem seemed to me like everything was locked up, but that isn't the case. So maybe it is just locked up once it is all bolted together because something is in wrong and you can't tell until the transfer case and output shafts are in?
Either way, I'm waiting for Jon at TRE to give me some advice and I hope to take it apart today and see if I can find anything out of place.
I haven't gotten to far into the tranny, but I did note that I could freely turn the input shaft, which makes me wonder why the engine would die when I let out the clutch.
